Coffee With Stars In My Cup

If you were having coffee with me, I would welcome you to my tangle of words and invite you to feel at home, put your feet… Whats it like on the other side of the screen?

I like to call myself a digital nomad, it doesn’t really matter where I am in the world, as long as I have internet connection and power in my laptop, even though I havent travelled anywhere to fully put that theory to the test… Each year, I think to myself this is it, this is the year I add some new stamps to the passport and I don’t mean postage stamps…. *A moment of silence for the Generation of digital natives who never wrote snail mail letters or had pen pals from all over the world*

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that through blogs I have been able to travel not only in space but time, seeing and learning from the shared experiences of others, I might even say they have become friends who probably know more about some of my thoughts and words than the people I see everyday, its kinda weird, but that’s part of the beauty of the internet.

My blog started off as simply a place where I could share things that I was always on the verge of saying but never did, and then evolved into a space where I could immortalise my thoughts, my identity, and the legacy that has shaped me. One day I woke up, and realised that I was forgetting the stories my grandparents told me, which was like forgetting parts about me, so I started capturing the beauty and chaos of the place I call home…

Home is place that isn’t kind to dreamers, dreams don’t pay the bills or put food on the table, and those who have resigned to this reality tend to convince you to wake up and stop dreaming, just like they did. But still we dream, that one day will show the world how, that thing they said I should lock away forever, actually unlocked my ancestors’ wildest dreams.

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you while this place isn’t good for dreamers, it’s a lot worse when you get a medical emergency and one must always be thankful for each day of good health. So after the government assured us that the our health sector was perfectly fine and that anything else was sensationalised reports to discredit the government… they have changed their tune.

situation in country's hospitals Zimbabwe
Chronicle 7 May 2025

The president paid an “impromptu” visit to local hospitals, to have a first-hand look at the reality faced by ordinary people. According to the president, scheduled visits didnt give him an accurate picture of whats happening on the ground, as they give glossy falsehoods.

One could ask how its taken him this long to finally see what people have been complaining about, or maybe one could simply appreciate how overnight, renovations started at the local hospitals, and try not to wonder how quickly they mobilised the millions of dollars to be spent on these projects, given the lack of transparency and the previous history of corruption and grossly inflated tenders…

Could be coincidence or the height of cheekiness from the person whom unsubstantiated claims point to as the beneficiary of the 500 milllion dollar procurement tender for medical equipment, to have flown to the UK and acquired a customised 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan. Maybe, he isnt the one who got the tender but such a display of extravagance in a country where people cant access basic pain medication from hospitals just doesnt sit right.

If you were having coffee with me, I would say that the only decent thing to come out of all this drama is that we can acknowledge that our health care is dire without fear of being arrested for causing unnecessary alarm and despondency or undermining the sovereignty of a constitutionally elected government.

Until a time when the law isn’t weaponised to muzzle freedom of expression, then blogging will mostly remain a social commentary footnote, without the full story.

Still, we dream and drink our cup of stars, daring to be immortal.

Whats been happening in your neck of the woods?
