best of The Year #BOTY2020

Movies I enjoyed this year:

Contagion

Watching this movie at the beginning of the year was strangely prophetic as the dreaded Rona virus ravaged the planet and the world went into lockdown. It left me searching for still unanswered conspiracy theories that we still don’t know the truth, the whole truth.

and that line about calling blogging grafitti wth punctuation!!!

I wrote a review post where I compared The Movie Vs Reality click on image below to check it out.

Death of Me

I watched this creepy movie as part of a Horror movie marathon during the Halloween season. Something about it lingers long after watching it, maybe it’s the ending…. Click image to read my review.

Antebellum

Another horroresque movie I watched courtesy of the Halloween season and also because I had thought it was a movie adaptation of another book I read; after having forgiven it for not being the book adaptation I had mistaken it for, I give it thumbs up. Its scary but not in the conventional horror movie sense but its tense and has you on the edge of your seat trying to unravel everything. Click image to read review

Color Out Of Space

I am thinking my list has way too many horror movies, what does that say about me I wonder. Color Out Of Space is a scifi/horroresque and again you can thank Halloween season for watching it. Nicolas Cage went full Nicolas Cage in this flick. And when I discovered it was based on a book, I looked up the book and read it too… I wrote a two for one review

The Old Guard

Perfect for a rainy day when you don’t want to think too much and you like action where the main character has a penchant for a battle axe. I am fascinated by the concept of immortality so, I was intrigued with this movie about lets just say hard to kill people

Knives Out

I think Knives Out definitely wins 2020 for me… it was different and took me back to Agatha Christie who-dun-its… I am a big fan of a well-executed murder mystery.

Have you watched any of these movies, your thoughts? What movies stood out in the year for you?

    1. Knives Out was awesome!!
I am surprised about all the horror too, I used to be such a sensitive viewer hahahaha growing if anyone took a gun out or a knife or you started hearing that heartbeat soundtrack that was my cue to exit… but now that I think about it, I probably scared myself more than what was actually shown on the screen walking out of the room with my eyes closed listening to he screams and sounds of ripping hahahaha

  2. You out-horrored me this year! (This cannot happen again next year!!) The only one I have seen on your list is Knives Out and I enjoyed it, somehow always a cozy feeling, a well executed whodunnit.

I was thinking it meant were psychopaths or is it sociopaths I know one of those has problems with empathy and likely to wind up a serial killer…

      1. I know! It can never happen again! Due to the corona measures and uncertainty if you can travel to other cities, I stayed most of the year with family and have not been to the movies since march or so. At the family house it is only sports!! (And socially sort of obliged that you do not go and watch your own things) Next year I will beat you!!

  3. I’ve watched them all, well except the horror movies… and yes they were fantastic but the real challenge should be rating your best 2020 movies from top to bottom depending on how much you liked them ~ Peshy xx

    1. FYI Peshy they are secretly in a sort of order and since you sorta asked I will tell you that its from top to bottom in order of preference with Knives Out taking the cup…

  4. Unusual for me, I saw a measly three movies in the theater for 2020 and three retro horror flicks at the drive-in. As a film buff, going to the movies has always been my thing but Corona squashed that. In January I saw the incredible south Korean film Parasite for the second time, In February my wife and I saw the horrible updated version of The Invisible Man, In the Summer at the drive-in we saw Pieces , The Prowler and 15 minutes of Massacre at Central High. Then we ventured into a social distancing movie theater Experience by seeing the long waited last X – Men related film The New Mutants, I actually enjoyed this, it’s a shame it won’t continue.

    1. Yeah 2020 kinda did that…

I wanted to watch Invisible Man but than the version I got had terrible picture quality and the other one had subtitles in an unfamiliar language which could not be removed … But that’s what one gets for murking about in illegal download sites no refunds no returns 🤣🤣 but could have been my ancestors saving me from a horrible adaptation

      1. oh man, reminds of the time when I bought The Story of Ricky (which is a crazy martial arts movie) it was a Chinese film, dubbed in Korean with Chinese subtitles. Lol

    1. Knives Out was quite decent I was suitably amazed at first I thought it was a simple plot and I wanted to rant back about how people can’t come up with intricate plots because it was soooo straight forward, then it started twisting about, until I didn’t know what to expect then had to watch it again to see all that I had missed the first time round.

  5. Loved Knives Out, which you recommended and it was a great who dunnit movie. Also, really loved Old Guard! I know I’ve watched more movies on Netflix, but nothing comes to my mind, drawing a blank. Haha, this year sometimes seems like a blur. We really like the series “Ozark” – with Jason Bateman. They are going to have a 4th and final season which they are working on for next year. I’m also watching The Mandalorian, season 2! LOVE it!! ❤️

  6. I really haven’t watched movies this year. The only one I have watched in your list is Old Guard. Thanks for the recommendations.

  7. I watched 4 movies from your list. I loved Knives Out, watched it after reading your review. Not as much as I LOVED the Old Guard. I watched a lot of movies this year. Most of them BOTS and such. I loved 75% of the ones I watched though

    1. At some point in the year Contagion was the most streamed/downloaded movie 🤣🤣 so people may not have mentioned seeing it, but the numbers never lie
Colour Out Of Space was a neat purple movie🤣
