Of Coffee And Thunderstorms

coffee as usual

If you were having coffee with me, we would sit through an evening thunderstorm and count the heartbeats between each lightning flash and each peal of thunder until it seemed both happened at the same time.

At least its finally raining” I would exclaim over the apocalyptic storm as we wondered how long it would take before the electricity switched off… It would seem like I spoke too soon as after one particularly brilliant flash of lightning and then there was darkness and silence punctuated by the deafening thunder.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you I haven’t experienced a thunderstorm this disquieting since I was much younger and my hair so much shorter.; and still believed that wearing red during a thunder storm increased your chances of being struck by lightning. I remember advice I got from my big brother; back then, “If you can hear the thunder; it means you survived the lightning… its the lightning you must be afraid off.”

The lightning talks to the thunderand the thunder answers. … Why does the thunder get so angry?

And then a line from The Sound Of Music pops into my head and suddenly I am singing My favourite things

The met department issued a thunderstorm warning citing that the hot weather conditions would result in violent thunder showers and flash flooding some areas of the country… I much prefer quiet storms than these tempestuous storms that feel like the end of the world but hey at least its raining.

If you were having coffee with me; I would tell you a curious fact; it started raining on the day the president officially started his three week annual leave; it’s a curious coincidence is it not? Well at least its raining and the country is in the safe hands of our two retired army personnel Vice-Presidents.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you it’s the opening week of schools; I am somewhat grateful that the parenting phase of my adulating level has not yet been unlocked because watching the others scurry about preparing for back to school is giving me anxiety; from the rising school fees costs and the ever escalating cost of school paraphernalia one wonders how anyone is managing; unless they are indulging in lucrative corruption.

Oh and remember that Mazoe lime juice; yeah it has run out of stock so for all the talk of people not liking it someone been buying it

A government minister says schools must use the land they have to build factories to manufacture their own school uniforms than to complain about the price of uniforms.

“We want each school to be able to produce its own school uniforms so that parents won’t be charged exorbitant prices by retailers.”

And that’s what they have to say in the wake of schools potentially failing to open because teachers and other civil servants are citing incapacitation, at least its raining.

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that planes are being accidentally shot from the sky; while some countries burn to the ground and machete wielding thugs terrorise people; I tuned into the news and the main international news was about the royal family’s Megxit shenanigans…

If I ever told my family I wanted to step back from familial ties I would probably get a family intervention  and a cow slaughtered to appease whatever spirit had possessed me to try and wash away my kin like they were dirt with soap… direct translation of Shona proverb “Hukama hugezwe nesipo setsvina.

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that I am royalty; I’ll have you know I am an African Prince, my blood courses with a royal lineage and an inheritance to a chieftaincy; with fire for a spirit animal; I may or may not have a complicated relationship with rain…. To read about some of my rich heritage you can read this post

There goes another lightning flash; I wonder if using a laptop during a storm increases the chances of getting struck by lightning well I wouldnt want to risk it; although I have a friend who giggles at the thunder, this would be their element….

If you were having coffee with me; I would say at least its raining, whats going on in your part of the world …

Yep I am really beginning to suspect that there’s some forsaking going on between us and them…. In the words of the gunslinger creed we have forgotten the faces of our fathers

  1. Those kinds of thunderstorms don’t happen often in our neck of the woods so when they do it’s exciting, frightening and yes, seems like the world may be coming to an end! 🤣 But you have to love the rain! So HAPPY for you and everyone there that it’s raining.

And ya, I have to agree with you how can one exit their family?? Scratching my head, just isn’t right, and I bet his mum is rolling over in her grave at the thought! 🤪🙃

Happy week, I’m off to tend to my horses! ❤️🐴🐎❤️

  2. We are expecting snow, this week, but not a lot of it. Worried about spring flooding, though. We’ve been getting too much precipitation, and a number of rivers in our general area are still at or above flood stage.

Hope you are surviving the weather and other facets of the surrounding environment. Best wishes for the week!

  4. I can’t help to think your ties with chiefs may make you prone to possession by a spirit hence the possibility of estrangement from family will bring the church to deliver you haha.

Ps: Your country’s political leaders remind me of my own again. And I also thought red was riskay during the thunderstorms.
