Of Inevitability

Where have I been?
I have been waiting.
Not lost.
Waiting the way soil waits for rain,
Waiting for thunder.

Lightning splits the sky,
and I count the silence,
between the flash and the roar,
measuring how far the storm is.

Waiting is all you can do.
Thunder follows lightning,
Inevitable as breath.

Beaton, May I ask what initiated this poem or life circumstance?

The was a thunderstorm and the lights went out… so was waiting for the storm to end, and the lights to come back on, and it became a reflection on waiting… and that became this.

I have not yet shared any of my poems. One I will soon share came to thoughts from a woman I saw sleeping in the park one early morning.
