If you were having coffee with me I would be happy to have you visit my tangle of words. Have a seat and make yourself at home, put your feet up. I know I write best with my feet up. Are you a Lord Of The Rings fan? Yeah, we wont be talking about that Fellowship.
Around this time last week I had just finished taking a social media crash course and I would be busy with a presentation for the Afrobloggers Blogging Fellowship where I would be taking our second cohort through Blogging 101.
It went swimming well, if the feedback can be trusted. Kind of reminded me of how an air hostess can appear calm serving smiles, refreshments and reassuring words while the aircraft is experiencing turbulence and someone is shouting we are all going to die… hmmm a bit much? Ok, how about a duck that seems calm above the surface of pond but below the surface it paddles furiously.
If you are having coffee with me, I would tell you that those familiar with the Zimbabwean situation know that we are experiencing acute electricity shortage and now networks seem to have joined in the bandwagon. Off the bat you would never imagine that electricity outage should affect internet connectivity right? But then where do you think signal towers get their power from? So when there’s no power the network gets unreliable.
I half suspect service providers are now just taking advantage to deliver substandard service and blame it on the electricity situation and the forex price and rate which makes it expensive to procure necessary support infrastructures. Anyway amidst all that crazyness I managed to talk about my passion while using my phone’s camera flash as a light ha!
If you are having coffee with me I would tell you that the past week has been quite an exciting affair each week day looking forward to see what the facilitators have to share… Crazy thing about blogging, just like in life, you never stop learning.
Denzel facilitated a course on Social Media, Brenda Nakandi took Choosing your niche and Dayo Moyo talked about Podcasting. This is the final week of The Fellowship and on the lineup there’s SEO with Lah_Joel and Vlogging with Hannah wellness with Tikia and building an audience with Pollet.
One interesting thing I have learnt over my blogging journey is that sometimes all you need is someone who will tell you, go for it, otherwise you will spend a lot of time wondering when you will be good enough to start and that’s kinda why I am known as Uncle Of Bloggers in the blogging circles cause I will be there asking what are you waiting for?.
If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that a network provider treated us to an evening of free internet to make up for the connectivity challenges… but there was one small catch, they only announced this wonderful news a day later that oh by the way yesterday we offered you free data yesterday…
I am sure you are thinking the admin team must have been drunk to send that awkwardly phrased text notification above. You know who else is drunk? Whoever is in charge of setting the black market rate, its been legit going crazy. Consequently prices of basically everything are just going through the roof… The government has tried to announced a new cocktail of measures to try and stabilise the Zimbabwe Dollar.

I schemed through the document and something of interest is that alongside the Gold Coins we now have Gold Backed Digital Tokens. And speaking about Gold, remember the Gold Mafia? Well, that case has been put to rest, the FIU says there’s no evidence of laundering activities. The End.

Oh and elections are set for August. I think I would make a great president but I dont think I would want to president, which would make me the best kind of leader… Next year I will be old enough to be a presidential candidate ^_^

If you were having coffee with me, I would say am sure you know I have a fascination with AI and tech right, I mean I did attend a tech event just the other weekend but that’s not the point. Point is I entered a submission into a competition on AI art themed The future of money even though it did not have the friendliest of Terms and Conditions. Check them out below and tell me your thoughts.

I have reservations but lets see if I win, show my tweet some love 😎
Whats been going on in your neck of the woods?

Digital currency scares me. It takes the “idea of money” to a whole new level, one where about 90% of the world can’t meaningfully interact. I’ll know the End is Nigh when the US creates a “digital dollar”.
Stay strong….

Agreed digital currency can rapture the very fabric of commerce.. and of course with the track record we have where just a few short years back we claimed to have a surrogate bond currency that was 1:1 to the USD that was backed by US dollars held in trust by our Reserve Bank…. Well now they are back with a digital currency that will be backed by Gold held in reserve by the reserve bank…. and nope I dont have confidence in this scheme.
Should start practising how to run around screaming The End Is Nigh, oh wait its almost Towel Day… Dont Panic as per Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy

What’s AB Fellowship without the Uncle of Bloggers? 😃 You make everything seem so smooth, even during challenging times. Also, let us know the next election period, if all goes well, I’ll be eligible to vote you in as the President😃

This explains why I stay clear of twitter in my moments of creative burnout. Seeing or interacting with your tweets feels like pressure to post something. You are so good at encouraging others.
A gentle uncle who breathes life into dry blogging bones. Keep the mentoring spirit going.

I do try to encourage in the gentlest terms possible without giving pressure… well except for the periodic tough love because sometimes one needs a bit of an extra push otherwise its super easy to dwell in a creative funk till it becomes a reality.
Thank you for visiting

Those T&Cs seem seem a bit unfair. Basically they are saying send your stuff but don’t be surprised if you see it somewhere but you did not win and the $50 prize we give you now should keep you contented for the next 2 years while we milk this artwork dry?

Those are some rather exploitative T&C’s I almost want to applaud the person behind them and how they saved the company quite the marketing and graphic design budget. I also hate the fact that I know its exploitative and yet I still submitted because the arent a lot of opportunities going around…
