Of Into The Wilderness

My Blog maybe 13 years old, but I have been about this life. Here is something I wrote over 20 years ago that I found in an old box of memories.

INTO THE WILDERNESS

LISTEN ….. it calls for us; beckoning us to set foot into unexplored territory. Without map, compass or direction let your survival instincts take over for all trails lead to only one place, beyond the horizon where no man has gone before.

Picture this ….. I could give you a vivid description of it but then noone has ever been there yet. Brace yourself as we go for a wild ride — full steam ahead,

but the question is are you coming or are we going—

Ladies and Gentlemen INTO THE WILDERNESS

Once upon a time the wilderness was the forest next door but man cut it down. Later the wilderness was the moon. Neil Armstrong perchance happened to look up one day and the wilderness called for him; He answered the call of the wild, set foot got a spacecraft and ventured into space. He stepped on the moon, where no mortal had gone before.

Pablo Picasso’s wilderness was art he painted in a style never tried by others. Guess what his teacher said: “This is the worst piece of art” but Picasso found his way into the wilderness and revolutionised art with his unique painting style Cubism, inspired from the wilderness.

History does not repeat itself, or does it; but people definitely do.  They follow the road set by others through tamed wildernesses.

You only live once; live for the moment.

Be bold; be daring; be gallant, leap all civil bounds, break all the rules,

but don’t be reckless, for if you crash and burn you can’t just pick up a phone and dial 911 for help, since you are after all in a wilderness.

Race the wind, feel the rush of adrenalin, venture into the wilderness with your eyes wide open, set the pace:

Certius, Altius, Forcius — faster, higher, stronger.

When you are fast, I’ll be faster.
When you go high,  I’ll go higher.
When you are strong, I’m stronger.

For the same reason people climb the highest mountains and ford the widest rivers, because they are there. We will go into the wilderness simply because it is there.

You are going to undertake the most difficult, wildest wilderness to reach the oasis: lost somewhere in the wild, your soul.

One’s heart is a wilderness hiding our strengths, weaknesses. The journey of self-discovery is truly a journey into the wilderness for it takes a lot of courage for one to embark on a round trip into the wild with nothing but luck on your side and praying you find an oasis before you run out of your water.

There is an ancient Chinese Proverb: “He who gains control over others is strong but he who conquers himself is all-powerful.”

When you do find your oasis in the wilderness, be careful lest it be a mirage and disappear at the last minute, for the road to civilisation from the wilderness is full of very tempting stops.

When you conquer the wilderness; sit on the throne of the world and let everyone else come and give you the respect you deserve. Then and only then can you take out your dynamite and;
Ignem mittere in terramSET THE WORLD ON FIRE.
