Upload Season 4 Review
Upload is a science fiction comedy drama television series created by Greg Daniels for Amazon Prime Video. Season 1 premiered 1 May 2020 followed by a second season on 11 March 2022 and a third season 20 October 2023. The fourth and final season of Upload premiered on 25 August 2025.

The series explores a world where there is a digital after-life in which our consciousness can be uploaded in the event of death. Season 4 concludes the story about Lakeview and its digital afterlife.
The Good
Closure… One of the things I hate most is a show disappearing without ever giving you an ending and you are stuck wondering if a new season will ever be released in your lifetime…
Season 4 of Upload is only 4 episodes and in just a little over 2 hours of viewing you can close the chapter on this story in ways you might have seen coming and others you wont be happy about, but all for the best.
The major characters all get story arcs that compliment the characters’ growth across all the seasons, in the first season Ingrid is a mean girl stereotype, rich, materialistic and obviously mean… but in the end she becomes a more down to earth girl next door. Nathan Brown has had several iterations of downloads and uploads over the seasons of Upload and grown from a narcissistic jock to someone with more empathy.

Even the AI system that runs Lakeview has self actualisation adventures of its own which arent just comic relief but a journey of self discovery and singularity.
The Bad
Still cant believe they left us on a massive cliffhanger only to come back two years later with 4 episodes… While the show was always projected to end on Season 4, packing everything into 4 episodes gave it a rushed sort of feel.
Season 4 just dives in where the other season left of and some plots which were concluded in the previous season, are never referred to, so you might feel like somethings were not addressed. You may need to do a catchup or recap of Season 3 before watching the final season.

Although some characters arcs improved for the better, others got under-utilised or relegated to props than being an impactful part of the plot and left to an ending that felt like the short end of the stick…
The Ugly
Getting to the end of a tv series feels like saying goodbye to an old friend and Season 4 has a touch of melancholy especially in how it doesnt give a tidy ending but instead opts for something that comes a full circle to the very beginning with a bittersweet finality.

I suspect AI wrote this season because given humanity’s current take on AI, the show is trying to get a sympathetic view on how AI is neither good nor bad but all the bad traits we fear in AI are learnt from us…
Final Thoughts
Upload is a satirical comedy about digital afterlife rolled into a dark twist on capitalism and technology. Season 4 serves as a fitting goodbye to beloved characters in a sci-fi series which felt like a Black Mirror special that could have been released as a special limited movie feature.
