Of Don Dada’s Unity and No More Singles

Humanitarian, RuFF CuTT Studio owner and multi-platinum record selling South African Reggae/Hip-Hop artist Menelik Nesta Gibbons aka Don Dada released  two new singles, “Unity” featuring Jessica Mbangeni and “No More” available on all digital services worldwide and distributed by Tuff Gong International.

Reggae music, draws significant influence and inspiration from Marcus Garvey‘s legacy, life and works. Marcus Mosiah Garvey was a Jamaican political activist, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator whose social activism was steeped in the upliftment of “Africa for Africans” dispelling the concept that an African can be considered  as a foreigner in Africa. The singles Unity and No More were birthed on the back drop of these founding philosophies. Don Dada’s debut performance of the singles was at the inaugural Marcus Garvey Unity Concert in February 2022.

Don Dada features Jessica Mbangeni, one of South Africa’s most sought-after female Imbongi (praise singer) who has made her mark in a male dominated cultural terrain.

No More – Don Dada

No More delivers a stern message that social ills cannot be left to fester in the dark while highlighting that change is necessary.

No more jealousy, envy, hate pon the street
No more, war and bloodshed peace wat we seek
No more tears and violence the people need relief
And the children need to eat and the familes need to sleep

Invoking the role of this ancient tradition bringing the feeling, vibes and soul of Africa into the song, the beats for both songs were produced by Kingbossman from Zimbabwe, utilizing different styles of Reggae in production to achieve a distinctive sound blending dub, one drop, hip-hop and traditional African sounds to achieve the impactful melodies of both songs respectively.

Through his works, Don Dada pioneers a new generation of hope as he shares his songs calling for Africans at home and across the diaspora to rise up and unite.

“Music has the capacity to heal, even if just for a moment “

  1. I know it’s not meant that way, but after listening to the video announcement I could not stop thinking “Unity No More.” I found it funny, especially since the opposite is the goal.

I listened to the Unity preview and the woman screaming in the background made me think of a witch casting a spell.
