Of Coffee With The Tooth Fairy

If you were having coffee with me I would be happy to have you visit and let you know that our lockdown conditions have relaxed from Level 4 lockdown to Level 2 which is a welcome respite from having to do dodgy things to beat the 6pm curfew.

Besides, it would have been very tricky to have schools open amidst heightened Covid restrictions. Speaking of schools opening was helping the niece with her third-grade homework and looks like the teachers just sorta threw parents and guardians into the deep end. How do I even begin to figure out how to explain soil erosion and weathering to an 8-year-old. I tried to enquire what they covered in class to find a basis to begin and apparently the teacher just said that’s your homework…

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that we were having an interesting conversation about the tooth fairy as my niece recently lost her milk tooth and woke to a tiny windfall beneath her pillow. The last time she lost a tooth there had been nothing under the pillow and we had to explain that because of lockdown the tooth fairy couldn’t come.

Schools opening was kinda sprung up on people short notice so budgets are all over the place, trying to factor in school fees and other things. It’s fascinating how kids can pick up the financial struggles and the niece offered to pull out all her teeth so when she gets money from the tooth fairy can help contribute to the school fees…. Aaaawe but of course had to tell her that wouldn’t be necessary… besides where would we get the money to play tooth fairy.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you how the government in its great understanding of the transport troubles that have been plaguing the commuters they have relaunched a train service which operates during morning peak and evening peak hours. The train service is powered by ZUPCO (yeah that’s the one which supposed to handle the buses too)

Well they could have given the trains a bit of paint job and not just stuck on a ZUPCO sticker on trains that are older than I am. A government official who took one of the first trips was sharing on Twitter their ā€œTravel Blogā€. Ā I bet at the end of the trip they got to get off the train and hop into their luxury car and drove back to their house in the suburbs and congratulating themselves for a job well done, hey at least they did something about the transport situation right?

The president also commissioned 50 new ZUPCO buses and many more are expected before the year is out..Great plan, but couldn’t we have first gotten the buses before setting up ZUPCO as the sole transport authority. Small wonder some people joke about how politicians create problems so they solve them and then seem like heroes for doing their jobs.

new ZUPCO buses

If you were having coffee with me, I would wonder how long it would take before they introduce ZUPCO as the next airline… On the upside, if they did, maybe plane tickets would be cheaper too and I could do a spot of regional and local air travel… maybe I should try pulling out my teeth and placing them under the pillow and see if the tooth fairy does tooth fairy things…

Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) launched a campaign to demand accountability for promises made by the government and inviting citizens to question their elected officials on delivery of all the things they promised hashtagged #HowFar

One of the billboards ZIMCODD put up asking How Far? about some corruption cases woke up vandalized, clearly some unscrupulous elements don’t want people asking questions..

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that the president opened the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency housed at the University of Zimbabwe. Man really likes opening and commissioning things… well space here we come, hmmm ZUPCO spacecraft?

So what’s been going on in you neck of the woods, I wish the tooth fairy was real I could really use a wish right now.
