Of The Sound Of Home

Walk with me down my playlist of 5 songs from Zimbabwe.

The current most played song on my playlist is Jah Prayzah’s Kwayedza.

That mbira instrument has me shaking my head and hair along like that’s the whole reason I grew it. This song is about pride in one’s identity and I wrote down the Kwayedza Lyrics And Translation.

Ijipita – Winky D

This song by Winky D is loaded with meaning; it’s about escaping bondage just like the Israelites did when they left Egypt for the land of Milk and Honey.. Check out the full Ijipita Lyrics and translation

Mebo Mebo

I love a good love story and this song is about a romance between a simple man who wonders if the woman will be able to leave a simple life with him and she, in turn, loves him regardless. Check out the Mebo Mebo lyrics and Translation

Nyika Yedu

This song by Celscius is an appeal or a plea for our country, that how long shall we live a life less than perfect when it seems we have everything we need right at our fingertips. Nyika Yedu Lyrics and translation

Solo na Mustai

My list of songs would not be complete without what could possibly be regarded as Zimbabwe’s greatest love story: Solo and Mutsai; kind of like Romeo and Juliet but also exactly not like it, not at all. Read The Real Story Behind Solo And Mustai

    1. Those two are definitely setting the bar in terms of music video and content.
It’s not a surprise that the first two could easily be some of the best known Zim artists, pick any Zimbabwean person and they probably like either; one the other or both and even if they don’t they are definitely aware of them 😂😂

PS I just seen that the artist from the first video got placard from YouTube in honor of their channel getting to 100 million views so they definitely must be doing something right not sure how many the competition has but should be pretty close 😂 there’s a low key rivalry even if it might mostly be in the fans eyes who keep trying to compare who is the bigger / better one is known as The Soldier and the other is The Ninja President 😂😂 my guess is its all publicity games

    1. The first 2 are some of the most well known Zim artists and there might even be a low key beef between the supporters of one musician and the supporters of the other.
Personally I think they are in different genres and besides why can’t I like both of them without having to compare?
But, well a bit of friendly competition helps keep everyone on their toes.

  3. I will listen to this at end of my day today, but I especially want to start reading your old stuff to see how you have evolved over the years.

    1. Hahaha now I worry I may have over sold my evolution…😂😂 I’ll be over here hiding.

It might not be that I write any different but more like I am more comfortable in my identity.
