Of Jah Prayzah’s Munyaradzi lyrics And Translation

Munyaradzi is the 9th track on Jah Prayzah’s recently launched album Hokoyo. Munyaradzi means someone who soothes and comforts. This song is the beautiful and sad story of two lovers who find comfort in each other…

Hee chiriyo dzamara tasangana
Cheerio till we meet again
Wandigumbura, wandigumbura
You have let me down, You have let me down
Wandigumbura, wandigumbura
You have let me down, You have let me down
Ndizvozvo dzamara tasangana
And that’s that until we meet again
Wandigumbura, wandigumbura
You have let me down, You have let me down
Wandigumbura, wandigumbura
You have let me down, You have let me down
Ipapo pandaigara
There, where I stayed
Ipapo dhiya ndipo pawaigarawo
There, dear, is where you stayed
Ipapo pataivata
There, we slept
Dzimwe nguva tairumwa nemarize
Sometimes lice bit us
Zviri mberi
What comes next
Taingobvunza Mwari
We asked God
Mutemberi
In the Temple
Kumberi kunei?
What lies ahead?
Kunyangwe mvura yekutambudzika
When the water of trouble
Payaidzika nematama ndaivepo
Dripped down your cheeks, I was there
Kuva munyaradzi
To comfort
Ndini ndaive munyaradzi
I was the comforter
Kuva munyaradzi
To comfort
Ndini ndaive munyaradzi
I was the comforter
Akazondisiya ndirimo munhamo ndega
But I was left to struggle alone
Tokonyana, tanga tatokonyana
Riled each, we had riled each other
Ko seiko Mwendamberi mayaura mega?
How come Mwendamberi you crossed by yourself
Takonana, tanga tatokonana
Disagreed, we had disagreed
Ndakamuti chiriyo, tosangana mberiyo
I said cheerio we would meet ahead
Takanyana, tanga tatokanyana
Fouled each other, we had fouled each other up
Homwe yakazosara yozara nemazana
When the fortune later found me
Tapokana, tanga tatopokana
Disagreed, we had already disagreed
Asi watokanganwa kamhepo kaitirova muchando?
Have you forgotten the biting wind in the winter?
Gumbeze rimwe chete rawaiziva ndini wako
The only blanket you knew was me
Wakambotsva maoko nekapoto kasina mubato
Once you burnt your hands on a pot with no handles
Mbuya yakakurapa takaiwana tafamba chinhambo
The old lady who treated you, we found after walking a long distance
Inga watovaraidzwa nemaruva semavara eshato
You are now entranced by flowers as if its a python’s skin
Dai ndaive nemari nguva yacho, ndaingoronga muchato
If I had money then, I would have organised a wedding
Waizongotiona tapota nesango
You would have seen me disappearing round the forest
Dai ndaiva nemari nguva yacho, ndaingoronga muchato
If I had money then, I would have organised a wedding
Waizongotiona tapota nesango
You would have seen me disappearing round the forest
Paizouya mhepo ndini ndaive bako
When the wind came, I would be your cave
Kunyangwe mvura yekutambudzika
Even when the water of struggles
Payaidzika nematama ndaivepo
Rolled down your cheeks I was there
Kuva munyaradzi
To comfort
Ndini ndaive munyaradzi
I was the comforter
Kuva munyaradzi
To comfort
Ndini ndaive munyaradzi
I was the comforter
Akazondisiya ndirimo munhamo ndega
But you left me to struggle alone
Tokonyana, tanga tatokonyana
Riled each other, we had riled each other
Ko seiko Mwendamberi mayaura mega?
How come Mwendamberi you cry alone
Takonana, tanga tatokonana
Disagreed, we had disagreed
Ndakamuti chiriyo, tosangana mberiyo
I said cheerio we will meet up ahead
Takanyana, tanga tatokanyana
Fouled each other, we had fouled each other up
Homwe yakazosara yozara nemazana
When the pockets started filling up
Tapokana, tanga tatopokana
Disagreed, we had already disagreed
Haiwa hurombo mukoma, ndainge ndakashoreka
But poverty was my shame
Asi muhana tainge tavaka hukama
But in our hearts we had built relations
Ndoedza kuvata wanike kwayedza
Trying to sleep and its already dawn
Varume ko inga kwachena
Guys how come the sun’s out
Asi handina chiedza
But I have no light
Zvese zviye, zvese zviye
All that, all that
Kwaingova kutungana kwembudzi varume
Was just child’s play
Anouya kuhope ndirere
You come to me in my sleep
Hope dzacho ndedzerumwe rudzi varume
The dreams are of another kind guys
Zvese zviye, zvese zviye (here zvaguma)
All that, all that (its ended)
Kwaingove kutungana kwembudzi varume (here zvapera)
Was just just child’s play ( its over)
Anouya kuhope ndirere (zvaguma)
You come to my dreams in my sleep (its ended)
Hope dzacho ndedzerume rudzi varume (here zvapera)
The dreams I have are of another kind (its ended)

There’s also some lesson to be found in this song, like not knowing what you have until you nolonger have it, and sometimes you get it back and other times….

Its exactly unlike my old favourite track Mebo Mebo where they stay together from day one, till the end.

  1. As music, I like the song you posted before this one better (though I like this), but this has a great video even without understanding the words (I watched before I read 🙂 )

    1. I absolutely agree with you!!!! I loved the first track more but the second video has an almost poetic story video that brings to the screen the song’s meaning you don’t need to know the words…
If the video choreography team had managed to fully depict the story within the story within the story it would have been a visual and auditory masterpiece

Well there is one part which I found powerfully compelling when one of the models/dancers is trying to rub off the colour from their song and tallies with the lyrics at that point… If there head been more enactments like that…
But what do i know i am not a music critic haha

      Thank you Trent

Haha this was fun and easy enough, but the other tracks have some deep deep words I which i could not even find out the Shona dictionary😂
