Of Coffee And New Money

If you were having coffee with me, I would be happy you joined me for a hug in a mug, even though the temperatures are still on the hot side, fortunately not as hot as the past couple of weeks.

The Met department gave a warning to expect rains this coming week yet so far its been mostly sun and sporadic drizzles; no actual rain rain. Hello hot dry season trying to turn me into a hot mess.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you  growing up I used to fancy working for the meteorological services, I mean how could I not, the only job where you could be wrong 50% of the time and still got to keep your job; unlike say a doctor, whom if wrong could result in the lose of life or a teacher whose mistake could cost generations, how about a Minister of Finance, Governor of the  Reserve  Bank  or the President even…..

and the scarf thats worn every season

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that the government authorities had said they would be introducing a new currency that’s not a currency, new money that’s not really new money, new denominations that are not quite new denominations but instead a cash injection to ease the cash crisis and curb the arbitrage profiteering by unscrupulous entrepreneurs,  well the new cash injection was supposed to hit the banks on 11 November…. But No show.

The only official communique was a textual description of what the $2 would look like and then silence. Curious thing about the new coin is that inscription showing it was minted in 2018 which would mean the government has had these coins in holding somewhere; just waiting for an opportune moment.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that less official sources seem to be suggesting that the new notes are simply our dear old bond-age notes but simply with the word bond note removed.

Bond Notes
New Notes

This seems to be a circulating rumour though I would not put it past them, the official information channels like playing the cards to their chest as if they dealing in a card game with the economy, my turn I raise taxes and I play the new money card. Your move.

Well since my bank nicodemously started billing monthly charges my bank balance is now below zero and counting; looks like I am not going to the bank anytime soon, new money or not, whats the point of having money in the bank if it just runs out ?

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that its not just the economy even the health has not been spared, currently 211 doctors have been fired from the ministry of health for participating in a mass action demanding that they be paid enough.

striking zim doctors

Interestingly enough saw an article about how abroad they have fast-tracked the process for VISA applications for health personnel,.

It would be hilarious and almost poetic if the senior government officials who travel overseas for medical treatment would get treated by the same doctors they fired.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that I got featured in the influencer edition of Prowl Magazine, looks like the local man is considered inspiring and influential in some circles.

Its always great to be noticed, sometimes you do things and you think the world doesn’t really see you. One of the questions I was asked after my WordCamp presentation was do I ever have moments that I ever want to stop doing what I do, days that I ask myself, what’s the point?

Truth is yes, yes some days that feeling does creep in, and what keeps me going is not the stats and traffic on my site though its inspiring to see that people are reading, its not just the comments from people who found something useful in my seemingly careless musings though that is pleasantly flattering, its not the people who acknowledge the work you put in though being appreciated gives you a nice feeling and its not just the people who have become regulars who wait to see what craziness you write about next and though I try not to disappoint; what keeps me going is me, one upon a time I made a decision to Become The Muse and here I am.

If you were having coffee with me I would say thank you for dropping by, you are part of why I do this *gesturing expansively at the world wide web*

Whats going on with you and what keeps you going?

  1. Some are saying the new notes still have the “bond note” tag on them? Who knows ey…my coffee might just turn cold while pondering this whole new twist of events. Will the rates go down? Will prices in shops go down?? What purpose are these notes really going to serve? And hey, your blog, the work you do…keeps me up to date with things happening around me. I hate reading newspapers and watching news. But this blog right here man…it gives me life!

  2. If I was having coffee with you, I would tell you that the rains here have never stopped. I think you should buy a bigger drum….

I wonder if our leaders consult one another under the table, because our money also, has a new look, been like that for about five months now.

“do I ever have moments that I ever want to stop doing what I do, days that I ask myself, what’s the point?”
Surprisingly, I have never had those moments. Somewhere deep inside, I keep feeling, there is this one person who decided to face another day, because they read my story or saw the bright colours in my drawing.

If you stopped this blog, truly speaking, there would be so many silent people’s lives that will be empty. The silent ones are the majority. So as you appreciate the ones that speak and like, remember the silent ones, if there are no likes at all, the views will tell you, that changing even one life a day, will make a difference.

    I wish you the best.

      1. Cheers to one article at a time.

And that point about leaders, you might be right, or, the spirits roam around the same kind of people.

        Wishing you good rain.

  3. I think it would be even more hilarious if that politician who went to a country with healthy health care,
found out that he was being treated by
one of the doctors he fired only just before. . .
    going into surgery…
