Becoming The Muse

What if they’re not stars,
but holes poked into the top of the box,
so we can breathe?

What if the dark
is only cardboard,
and worried we’d suffocate,
they took a pin,
and pierced it through.

And maybe morning
is just the lid lifting
and the box opened,
letting in the sun.
