Phone Telepathy
I might have a gift… fairly useful and kinda scary coincidence.
I always forget to turn the ringtone volume back up after meetings. So my phone is almost always on silent mode and maybe vibrates only on a good day. But here’s the bit that actually unsettles me.
If I think it’s ringing and I pick it up to check, that’s precisely the moment it starts ringing. Like it was waiting for me to pay it attention so could ring.
And if I’ve left it in another room which, I have been reminded multiple times that it entirely defeats the purpose of it being a mobile phone, “you’re meant to carry it with you, Beaton”, I’ll get this sudden, completely unprompted thought: “dude, where’s your phone.” No context. No trigger. Just a phone-shaped itch where my phone is suppose to be.
So I retrace my steps, wander into whichever room I abandoned it in, and there it is, ringing. Quietly vibrating its little battery out to an audience of absolutely no one, waiting for me to answer it.
How do you even explain that?
I have a theory, and I’m fully aware it makes me sound like I should be wearing a tinfoil hat while I say it: maybe we can pick up on the electromagnetic radiation of an incoming call, on some frequency just under conscious thought.

Remember the old days, when a cellphone about to ring near a speaker would announce itself first with that little interference beeps tititi tititi titititi tiiiiiiiiiiii like it was clearing its throat before the actual ring?
