Rain for Christmas
Growing up we would spend Christmas in the countryside with the grandparents alongside all the family who could make it… it was epic. Some years a cow was slaughtered maybe a goat but always chicken…

There was a running myth that if you woke up early enough, you would find the cows and the goats all facing east, to watch the rising sun in honour of the king born in a manger. Try as I did, I never got to witness this phenomenon most likely because someone made it up.. but year after year we would wake up at the crack of dawn trying to catch the cows doing the things…

An interesting observation I have witnessed is how it usually rains on Christmas Day.
We usually have a family barbecue for Christmas and you can imagine the drama that stems from trying to do an outdoor grill while its raining or drizzling. Even if the rain isn’t a lot, starting a fire after the charcoal or wood has gotten damp is a soap opera, which lives me wondering how one careless match can start a wildfire, yet an intentional barbecue fire needs all sorts of kindling, a box of matches fire lighters and probably a bottle of Christmas spirit to get things moving.

Speaking of veld fires.. statistics show that over 90% of veld fires are caused by humans both intentionally and unintentionally.. As someone with a totem of fire, I cant help thinking about the possibility of a wild animal with a box matches or magnifying glass running around and starting fires… 🔥
Oh it rained this Christmas… A Christmas miracle… after the hot dry spell… Bless the rains in Africa 🎶Hopefully this heralds, a bountiful year to come.
Wishing you a prosperous New year.
