Of A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place: Day One is a 2024 American apocalyptic horror film written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, based on a story he conceived with John Krasinski. It is the third installment in the A Quiet Place film series, serving as a spin-off and prequel. The movie was released by Paramount Pictures on the 28th of June 2024.

A quiet Place Day One

The movie is about the early stages of the invasion by blind, extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing characteristic with A Quiet Place film series.

The movie is a spin-off and prequel which means that you do not need to have seen any of the other movies in the series to watch this, nor do you need to worry anout remembering where the story left off, because this is set at the beginning Day one….

Following the footsteps of the other movies in the franchise, the movie has an intense atmosphere with palpable tension, sound and silence is masterfully used to create suspense.

The character focussed story gives the movie an emotional core, which draws one into the story as we follow the survival drama of its principal characters and the secret star of the movie.

Lupita Nyong’o as Samira  a pessimistic and terminally ill cancer patient and her service cat named Frodo deliver a strong and emotive performance. Then there’s Joseph Quinn as Eric a British Student who is a having a hard time coping with… well everything and an alien invasion isn’t helping… took me few takes to remember why he looked familiar he was Eddie Munson in Season 4 of Stranger Things.

A Quiet Place film series productions play their cards close to the chest revealing minimal information about the creatures… If one were expecting to get any more answers about why the aliens are here, where they are from and what their intentions are outside of the need to feed… you wont find them in this movie…

Lupita Nyong'o as Samira in A Quiet Place: Day One

One glaring absence of explanation was as to how we never learn how people figure out that if you are not quiet you get killed… its like mayhem, chaos and fade to black and those who have survived now know ….. and we move.

Its not as scary as the first one… Maybe that’s because was already familiar the creatures and how they operated…

The movie plays off like a short survival movie where you are not sure who will be make it to the end and that’s pretty much the plot…

Lest you forget, its a horror movie, with alien monsters, it can get gruesome.

A Quiet Place: Day One

We are supposed to suspend disbelief, but the characters seem to suspend common sense as well, maybe they are giving the subtle implication that people are stupid and will get themselves killed for no good reason and drag others with them…..

A Quiet Place: Day One offers a glimpse into the tense beginning of humanity’s struggle for survival in the Quiet Place series… It doesn’t raise the bar set by the first movie but most importantly it does not drop the ball.

Have you watched on any of the Quiet Place movies?

I wondered about this one. I saw the first one, which I thought was pretty good. I did not see the second one.

The way this one is setup you can watch it without having seen the second one or even the first one for that matter 😂 😂
Its not as “pretty good” as the first but its a decent homage to the franchise.

You mean you still need to watch part one and part two … or… have you already watched part one, I recall you watched this movie blind with no prior viewing experience.

I watched all of the quiet place movies. I was hoping we would get an explanation as to how people figured out the aliens had acute hearing. I guess its like the walking dead. When did people figure out only a head shot can put down a zombie? Maybe in the next installment they could have a flashback of when they learned the aliens were blind and have super hearing. Good review B.

hahaha well for the zombies its not a logical the lore is there we know Vampires are staked through the heart, werewolves silver bullets and zombies, well beheadings and headshots, one need not worry about from whence this knowledge came 😂 😂
but as for aliens in a Day One movie prequel…
      Thank you Darnell

An excellent review. I had a chance to watch this movie recently and really loved it. I appreciate the points you raised here about what worked and didn’t work for you. Personally speaking, this movie worked really well for me. I loved the way it told a prequel story separate from the previous movies. Lupita N’yongo was extraordinary in the leading role. I also appreciated the way the film used silence. Finally, the themes of survival in the movie really resonated with me. I thought it delivered a meaningful message about survival. That being said, I do feel as thought the movie wasn’t quite as great as the previous films in this franchise. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt brought something special to these movies that was missing from this film.

Here’s my thoughts on the movie:

  5. […] Beaton recommended Murtagh by Christopher Paolini. Now, I have read the previous books in the Inheritance Cycle, but I’d rather cut out my eyeballs with a pickle than read another book by Paolini. But just to be clear, in case you missed that subtle context, that is a N-O-. […]
