Of Thought Process: Content Creation

Every day I find myself awake at the same time, I donโ€™t even need to check the clock to know its somewhere around 3am irregardless  (yes itโ€™s a word itโ€™s a word and I insist on using it ^_^) of the time I go to bed, I always find myself wide awake during the witching hour.

This is when random thoughts rattle in my brain and jolt me awake, sometimes I promptly fall asleep and forget about the thought, except being haunted by the niggling sensation that I had a flash of brilliance, which I can never recapture. I keep a notebook on the bedside table to capture my flashes of nocturnal brilliance, but half the time its indecipherable to the daytime version of me and the other half its mundane drivel but once in a while, its something alright.

draft ideas
I think these were characters in a thriller encounter ๐Ÿค”

Sometimes I reach for my phone to jot down a couple of words, sometimes it becomes a whole draft that might make its debut to the world via my social media, and eventually up on my blog.

ten to tangle

My social media plays a complimentary role to my blogging, not only does it serve to promote and distribute content, it also functions as a sounding board, research tool and to-do list. What starts off as a random tweet (again I insist on still calling those tweets) about turning raw eggs into cake can end up as a satirical post about pan Africanism described as a recipe for a Bake Off.

Raw eggs recipe for a fitness diet

Donโ€™t let how easily bloggers make it seem, a lot of work goes into content creation, from ideas that spend days, weeks or even years in the space between simply being an idea in a creativeโ€™s head to a draft that might never ever see the light of day, to finally pushing the publish button.

Publish buttonon keyboard

But wait, let’s back up a bit it, before hitting that publish button, thereโ€™s still the fact-checking and proofreading that precedes it, although for the life of me, I cant figure out how some mistakes irregardless of how  many times I proofread only pop up when I hit publishโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Flawless typo

All of my posts have custom feature images that means I spent a couple of minutes in a photo editing software, some take a couple seconds to cook up others take surprisingly longer, and after a week of content creation, the numbers add up.

Then lastly before I publish I figure out the titleโ€ฆ believe it or not when I first sit down to create my content I really have no idea what the title will be unless of course its prompted content like reviews where the title is ** insert the name of the body of work** add review at end.๐Ÿ˜‚

Some say that without a title you will go off topic, which would probably be right because this post is supposed to be a peek behind the scenes of my blogging journey and the passion that fuels my creativityโ€ฆ.

What does your content creation process look like?

I almost always figure out the title first, as that gives me a starting point to work from. Now, it might change after I’ve written the post, but 99 times out of 100, it is the first thing I type out. Or even think of ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you schedule much in advance, or just save it in drafts until you feel like publishing it

Wow interesting, I long since realised if I try for a title first I will spend hours trying to pin it down and never get round to the actual writing– so I just get a working idea, run with it… then figure out what to call it cause title be blank๐Ÿ˜‚

I usually schedule in advance, though I used to go by feels following a sort of chilled posting plan but because of the unpredictable electricity outages which also somehow affect internet connectivity, cant guarantee to be online when the mood moves me…

Were you looking through our blog drafts and trash bins?

I can totally relate with the restlessness at night and the endless jotting down of ideas.

If I hadn’t written today’s entry, I would be copying and pasting some of your work ๐Ÿ™ˆ

hahahahaha I dont need to look through anyone’s drafts, I have come to realise the way of the blogger is very similar *excuse me while I jot that idea for a future article **

Thats probably why, I usually finish my article before I read others, unless I am stuck on a prompt or not finding the inspiration to tackle it hahaha

I will stick with publishing mine before I read other blogs…lest their blogs become another AI tool with all our voices sounding the same ๐Ÿซฃ

Great posts as always. I think that you definitely raised some interesting points about the content creation process and how it affects the lives of bloggers. Personally speaking, I find the process of content creation to be enjoyable but at the same time challenging. Being a film critic, I’m extremely passionate about what I do. I spend countless hours every day writing, publishing and promoting my movie reviews. My day usually begins with promoting my reviews. I wake up early because the morning is the time when I am most productive. I enjoy the writing process which can take up to 4 days for writing reviews of movies that I love.

However, at the same time, content creation is challenging. Unfortunately, over the past few months I have encountered cyberbullying that has impacted my content creation. Mean insults from fellow bloggers have made me question whether film criticism is worth pursuing. Nonetheless, I have kept at it by ignoring such comments and continue doing what I love most. I have learned that cyberbullying is simply a part of the content creation process.

Your post brought to mind the recent film “American Fiction”. It tells a story of an African American author that faces racial barriers publishing his books. A fantastic movie that captures the challenges involved in the process of content creation. Here’s why I recommend it strongly:

I always think everyone should attend a sort of blogging boot camp, as part of a life orientation course, even if one doesnt become a content creator, hopefully they have a better understanding of the work people into the craft and the challenges faced…

the premise of the movie sounds interesting might watch it

Wow it’s amazing to see someone else’s content creation process. My process is completely different. I start with the title (usually a question) I want to write about and work backwards from there. I find if I do it the other way around, I end up going off on long tangents and end up with blog posts that are longer than Longreads with too many twists and turns! ๐Ÿ˜… But OMG tell me about the proofreading, sometimes I read my articles through 10 times and still find a mistake a year later! Do you ever feel like your posts are completely finished? I’m not sure I do, haha.

      Interesting…
I sometimes do the question thing, as part of the brainstorming storming process… but there wont really be a working title, just the general idea of what I hope to convey…

I have accepted that my posts are never completely finished, they are a constant work in progress… and I imagine myself as a gardener walking in the garden of past posts to prune, water and just admire the blooms ha!
Also I have stopped trying to get the perfect post before posting because when there was a point when I couldnt publish anything as I thought it wasnt good enough… and ironically the posts which I felt where perfect seemed as if I had edited away personality leaving something perfect syntax but no character… I didnt like those either…
So now I am for that flawsome balance, and of course still fix up the typos when I notice them or they get pointed out *oopsie* and just keep it moving ๐Ÿ˜‚
