Coffee With X – Becoming The Muse
If you were having coffee with me I would welcome you to my tangle of words and ask you to feel at home… August temperatures are supposed to be warmer but instead it feels like we are still in July which is the coldest month and peak winter…
My go to social media platform is Twitter , its like the Google of social media where within seconds you can find out whats happening in the world or to just shout into the void… and sometimes the void replies. Ever since Elon Musk bought Twitter, he has been instituting changes on the fly in his quest to turn the microblogging platform into an everything app.
The most recent change is a rebrand to X. Gone is the iconic blue bird. Not sure what Mr Musk’s fascination with the letter X is exactly but it pops up whenever he is round; SpaceX , Tesla Model X , the Starlink logo looks like a X and his first startup which merged to become Paypal was called X.com and he pushed for PayPal to have an X prominent in its branding, didnt work though….
Long story short X marks the spot and he has finally found somewhere to put it.
Navigating to X.com will redirect you to the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. They even put up a bright flashing X logo at their San Fransico offices but it had to be taken down due to complaints and violations of regulations.
What does this rebrand mean?…. For now nothing “major” has popped up, its still the same old chaotic mess… People have been jumping ship trying to find alternatives such as the Threads App by Meta…. But I think its still a long way to go before this ship sinks and who knows maybe he just might pull it off.
I tried to scout around for an alternative social media app but have decided to take a leaf out of the pages of the band that elected to continue playing while the Titanic sank and Tweet away… oh its no longer tweeting its now posting….

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that it seems like Mr Musk is really trying to get back the money he put into twitter and at every turn is pushing users of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter to pay subscriptions… There’s the rate limits which can affect the number of posts you can see in a day and there’s also a limit to the number of DMs you can send (unless you are a verified user i.e. subscribed to Twitter)

Tweetdeck to is now X Pro and will soon only be available to verified users, which kinda of sucks since I used to find as a handy utility to navigate across multiple Twitter accounts and various hashtags and finding blog posts by African Bloggers.
If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that regardless of my personal feelings towards Mr Musk for what he is doing to Twitter.. I have my fingers crossed that Starlink Services will soon be available in Zimbabwe although I doubt the government might let that happen soon on the pretext of wanting to protect local internet service providers though I suspect the real reason would be because they would not be able to shut down the internet at will.
Our internet has been shutdown a couple of times before and with elections that are likely going to be very contested… I predict some internet outage loading.
X marks the ballot paper. Our harmonised presidential elections are a little over a fortnight away and from the current happenings, I forsee a lot of court proceedings before the winner finally emerges. Candidates have been removed from the nominees and others managed to get themselves reinstated and we now have a female candidate for the presidency, they not likely to win but I am still proud of how they challenged the systems and fought for their right to be a candidate.
If you are having coffee with me I would tell you I haven’t made up m mind who will get my vote, its like picking the one with the more convincing lies… all I want is affordable internet and reliable electricity is that too much to ask for?
Looks like after a decent run for the past couple of weeks, our loadshedding woes are back… nothing official has been mentioned as yet but the Zambezi River Authority issued out updates to the effect that we received below normal rainfalls and that the levels of water at Kariba dam are below what they should be for this time of the year… so they will be rationing the water allocated for hydro-electricity generation….
The most important X in my life pretty much feels like a meme on a social media platform… You laugh try not get outraged and just keep it moving.
Whats going on in your neck of the woods?
