Of Ask Me Anything

Google (read that as your search engine of preference ha!) is a wonderful thing. Isnt it? You can ask about practically anything at the push of a button. But have you ever thought about who puts this information on the internet?

I have seen people remark about how there is limited information on the internet when it comes to content for and about Africa… at the back of my mind I am always asking myself, but who do you expect to post up this content.

This is the tenth year of Becoming The Muse and one of the things that has helped shape my content is the idea that if there is something I wanted to read about then I should write about it. If I had a dollar for every time someone has said to me that I have a blog post for everything… I would have more dollars than I currently have right now…

In the pursuit of writing the things I want to read, I have shared (and possibly overshared) a lot of things over the years. Its very possible someone who reads my blog could know things about me and the world around me, than someone who sees me everyday in real the world.

There’s something about the internet that makes it possible to connect with virtual strangers… Mark Twain was possibly years ahead of his time when he made this famous quote:

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person.
Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

The internet gives us a sort of mask that allows us to be more ourselves than in the real world, sure some use that as an excuse to be trolls spewing vitriol from ghost profiles but others actually find their voice and their purpose in life from blogging.

This is my fifth year participating in the Winter Afrobloggers Blogging Challenge styled as WinterABC. We started it because of the dearth of Blogging Challenges that generated Afrocentric content and of course wanted people to realise that blogs could be so much more than just online diaries or gossip tabloids as is a common misconception in some circles.

Previuosly in June:
WinterABC2019
WinterABC2020
WinterABC2021
WinterABC2022

I have been here for so long that at the top of my head it almost feels like I have written about possibly everything I could ever write about…. So how about a fun challenge to spark some creativity… As I draft my content for WinterABC2023, comment on my blog and ask me about anything, I will either direct you to somewhere I have written about it, if I havent, I might consider it for an upcoming post.

Let me make it easy for those who might need a mask 🎭— Here is a secret chat link to share your thoughts anonymously:

    B,
Congratulations on 10 years!! 🥳 I’ve always enjoyed reading your blog; coming here is like coming outside to clean, fresh air after inhaling bleach for too long.

My questions for you: How have you found ways to write consistently (my current struggle)? Do you have any regrets (in general) and if so, how have you learned from them/how how they shaped you as a person and writer? If you DON’T have regrets, how have you managed to keep your pure this whole time?! 😋

    Blessings on you, B,
    An Affected Reader 💜

Wow… thank you Rulonda, these are the type of things that help fuel the consitency that you ask about, that knowing that while doing you, you still made a difference or an impact to someone else.

Regrets???? hmmm cant seem to think of any, but I have been following a simple philosophy that every step I take is meant to lead me towards the person I am suppose to become, so I honour each part of the journey, the good and bad and no regrets…. My favourite line from The Matrix is when Morpheus tells Neo What happened happened and could not have happened in any other way

What keeps me consistent is that over the years I have gotten to understand what writing means to me and why I do it…. that its how I breathe, it centers me, when I am not writing I feel lost

        I dig your philosophy!

“Writing is how I breathe”… feel you on that. Same. Sometimes, I get too stuck in my head and the words freeze up and won’t flow. That ever happens to you? What do you do in a situation like that?

Lets see… yeah that sometimes happens either when I feel pressured to write or I am not quite in the space to write what I am trying to write… what works for me is usually taking a break or working on something different while my mind gets time to reboot…

You might also want to have a look at this article I wrote aboit Writer’s Block…. I dont suffer from it, but rather I enjoy it immensely hahaha

but who do you expect to post up this content.

Darn tootin’!!!!!!! I am so sick of people who complain about something but who are not willing to lift even one finger towards fixing whatever the problem is.

I guess my question would be:
How do you deal with entitled people online? ( I ask because you’re all over the place on various platforms and so don’t seem to have the liberty to simply withdraw to just blogging)

I know right!!!! its not like you are being asked to solve all the world’s problems but at least show that you have taken a step, even a baby step at being part of the solution….. As they say in Chemistry… if you are not part of the solution, then you are the precipitate 😂

As for Entitled People: I usually abide by a simple rule, do not feed the trolls Usually you’ll find that the people feel entitled even to the attention you will spend on them… Do not engage.

While I am all over the place on various platforms, I prefer some platforms more than others and I interact only with a select few.

Blogging is lot like a journey of self-discovery over the years as you write some things and purge some thoughts and ideas out you get better at saying things you never realised were the things you were actually saying all the time hahaha

      Thank you

Congrats on 10 years of blogging! I’m glad I now know about your blog. Love your voice and purpose. Keep it up.

    Question:
Is there any topic that you feel is off limits on your blog?

Thank you and super glad to connect.

Hmmmm: Off limit topics, well when I first started I would worry about my family reading somethings but now personally no topic is off limits for my blog…. however there is a bit of self-censorship because freedom of expression is guaranteed after expression ha!

10 years, huh? Not even a teenager yet. Your blog is like those 7 or 9 year Olds who get accepted in colleges because of their genius minds. There’s so much wisdom and knowledge here that is sure to spark something in your audience.

    Congratulations malume.
