ChatGPT
The whole world seems to be losing its collective marbles over ChatGPT. I have been tinkering around with it for a bit, so sit back and let me give you a crash course on all things ChatGPT and AI
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022.
How it defines itself:
ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI. It's a computer program that uses artificial intelligence to generate human-like responses to text inputs. It's like having a virtual friend who you can talk to and ask questions. It's trained on a large amount of text data, so it can respond to a wide variety of questions and discussions
I asked it to explain itself to me like I was 5:
ChatGPT is a computer that can talk to you and answer your questions. It's like having a smart friend who knows a lot about many things and can have a conversation with you. It's kind of like a genie who can help you find information and make you happy by chatting with you!
Its basically an Artificial Intelligence genie that can do quite a number of tasks depending on how creative you are in your interaction with it, from writing articles for your blog, drafting emails to your boss or principal, doing your assignments and homework, to even creating code and poetry.
I asked it to write a love story between AI and a human, in my previous article: Love in a time of AI. It was a bit shocking to think AI can be that creative even though its storytelling does lack that personal flair that comes from a human’s creativity. –but it might even learn to get that right–
I asked ChatGPT to outline some of the issues that arise from using AI:
Ethical and societal issues that arise from the development and use of artificial intelligence:
Bias: AI systems can be biased if they are trained on biased data or if their algorithms are biased. Unemployment: As AI systems become more advanced, they may be able to perform some tasks more efficiently than humans. Privacy: AI systems often require collection of large amounts of data which can have privacy infringements. Autonomy: As AI systems become more advanced, there may be a risk of loss of human control over certain processes.
I found it interesting that the AI was aware of its potential although the most curious bit was how it downplayed the elephant in the room, you know, Terminator Judgement Day, SkyNet …. So I asked it point blank if AI would lead to The Singularity.

The concept of the singularity refers to the idea that artificial intelligence (AI) will eventually become so advanced that it will be able to surpass human intelligence and potentially lead to a future in which AI controls humanity. It is not likely that artificial intelligence (AI) will take over the world in the sense of becoming a dominant power and controlling humanity. While AI has the ability to perform many tasks and can be programmed to do a wide range of jobs, it is not capable of independently developing goals or desires. AI systems are designed to perform specific tasks and operate within certain parameters set by humans. It is important to note that AI is a rapidly evolving field and that it is currently not possible to predict with certainty what the future of AI will look like. It is crucial that researchers and policymakers consider the ethical and societal implications of this technology and work to ensure that it is developed and used in a responsible and safe manner
It didn’t quite say no and it didn’t rule out the possibility— Hold on, did it just imply if such a thing happened it would be our fault?
Final Thoughts
An immediate threat of AI such as Chat GPT is that we are going to stop developing some skillsets, maybe, we might acquire new ones, as we outsource some mundane tasks to AI. Already some educational institutions are waging war on assignments written by ChatGPT, developers are even hot on the heels of creating anti-AI detectors such as GPTZero
I( ran my previous post in an AI detector and looks like its going to be quite the battle, AI proving other a human didnt do the work… Its almost as ironical as a robot asking you to prove that you are human.

How to Access ChatGPT
Simply sign up on chat.openai.com/auth/login
For my fellow Zimbabweans and others in countries not supported by Open AI services, fret not, there is a way to access the service.
For the initial registration you need 2 things:
- A VPN that gives you server location in supported countries
- You will need a number that can receive a verification SMS in a supported country
Once you have completed registration you will only need the VPN to login to the Open AI services ChatGPT and DALL•E
The AI Race
ChatGPT since its release has triggered an AI race with major players seeking to have Artificial Intelligence integrated into their core functionality.
Bing Gets An Upgrade

Microsoft’s Bing will be powered with ChatGPT which means Bing is set to get more conversational and will understand the context of your query better. It will give ‘essay-style’ answers, just like ChatGPT.
You can sign up to be on the waiting list for the new Bing Experience on the Bing website
Google Gets Bard

Shortly after Microsoft’s announcement Google also unveiled its in-house AI chatbot, Bard.
Bard AI seeks to combine “the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models.”
Google has so far only put BARD AI in the hands of “trusted testers,” but will make it more available to the public “in the coming weeks.” so fingers crossed.
Other Alternatives to ChatGPT:
AI is inevitable and the way search engines work is also changing, which means some of those SEO skills might become highly valuable or redundant… I remember a time when searching for something on the internet meant you had to construct your query as if you were drafting some sort of code algorithm, you couldnt just search anyhow… and now we are in the golden era of AI, adapt or die.

Robotics are being worked on by people who have grown up thinking humanity is a scourge. They are ideologists. They hate humanity.
So of course their tools will reflect said ideas.
I feel bad for you all…

“AI is a rapidly evolving field and that it is currently not possible to predict with certainty what the future of AI will look like.” I liked that quote.
I signed up to the waitlist. Can’t wait 😉

If you cant beat them join them hahaha my thinking is might as well as learn all about it and see how to make it work for me than wait for someone else to replace my skills with AI

Exactly. I signed up for the waitlist after your “guest post” with the same thoughts in mind.

This is exciting! I have mixed feelings about AI, because it’s about to make writers like myself obsolete, and it might end the world, but it’s still exciting to be living in the future, so-to-say. I’d hate to be a college professor right now, though!

Its a hard time for educators. But then again maybe there just might be AI which can grade the papers for the college professors, just feed them into the machine and you get the answers no sleepless nights and hey maybe even professors wont even be necesary haha! Would anything be necessary ? hmmmm
Still its all exciting stuff like being in a SciFi movie, hopefully we pay attention and at least not end the world by the advancement of technology

You are totally right we are now in the AI era. I remember growing up watching terminator and thinking all this would never happen in my lifetime but with the way things are going , it just might ☹

Thank you for putting this post together. Quite helpful for the lazy.
“and make you happy” that’s concerning. It’s as if we didn’t rely on computers for happiness enough already…
“remembers what user said earlier” concerning…
limitations – quite scary
Of course, if such a thing happens it will be our fault. Humans are greedy bastards. They will weaponize AI against us. At least in the beginning.
We don’t need AI to outsource computer stuff. We’ve got people for that. We should use AI for manual labor where no one seems to work in anymore. People don’t know how to do basic things anymore (thank God for YT tutorials). And now handing over another sector? We will devolve into slugs.
Google Bard? Intriguing.
