Of Dzimba Dzemabwe

Dzimba Dzemabwe is track by Winky D from his Eureka Eureka Album. Featuring the soothing vocals of Shingai Shonhiwa a Zimbabwean-British singer best known as vocalist for indie rock band Noisettes. Dzimba Dzemabwe means Houses of Stones which could be a reference to Zimbabwe or maybe just creative license… what do you know about a house of a stone?

If in Ibotso Winky D was simply a musician channeling a message from the ghetto youth, Dzimba Dzemabwe, is rallying call… is this the land we cried for? As the beat transtions into a calming tempo and Shingai belts out her outro verse that could be mistaken for a lullaby, a butterfly with steel-capped wings, beautiful, mersmerising and oh so deadly…

Dzimba Dzemabwe Lyrics

Ya know
Serious things
Shingai
Usadaro usadaro daroo

Night and day my heart is bleeding (ya know)
When I look at the poor and needy
I cried
Everything is gone with the greedy (ya know)
We need a national healing

Is this the land,
we cried for?
we died for?
Usadaro
Is this the land,
we cried for?
we died for?
Usadaro
Dzimba dzemambwe dzemabwe dzemabwe
Dzimba dzemambwe dzemabwe dzemabwe
Usadaro

What kind of legacy are we to leave for the coming generation?
Yesaya I hope to see a better life but its only imagination
They talk about democracy but look around all I just see is hypocrisy
The dialogue is turning into a fallacy the ghetto youth ambition now turn into a fantasy
From long a time ago everyone know this is the bread basket
But right now we carry water inna deh basket.

Is this the land,
we cried for?
we died for?
Usadaro
Is this the land,
we cried for?
we died for?
Usadaro
Dzimba dzemambwe dzemabwe dzemabwe
Dzimba dzemambwe dzemabwe dzemabwe
Usadaro

If the world is a stage
Then this pain is a cage
Aren’t you tired of lying mwanangu?
You are smiling through all of your rage
So listen to me softly
Time to rise up my family
What you thinking did you miss me?
Sing it with me.. is this the land,
We died for?
We cried for?
Usadaroooo

Is this the land,
we cried for?
we died for?
Usadaro
Is this the land,
we cried for?
we died for?
Usadaro
Dzimba dzemambwe dzemabwe dzemabwe
Dzimba dzemambwe dzemabwe dzemabwe
Usadaro
Usadaro
