Of A This & That Book Tag

this-1.jpg

I was tagged in the This and That book tag by Mable. I am quite honoured more than little flattered and your secret is somewhat safe with me. Thank you for the nomination and the other thing, I do not know; do I pretend I did not see that? or, as That Writer Chic would say it’s complicated. Again many thanks Mable ^_^

Alrighty then lets get to it;

READING ON THE COUCH OR THE BED?
Wherever it’s comfortable and I can read in peace. But on lazy days of binge reading, for a change of scene, after I fall asleep reading a book in bed, in the morning I will drag my duvet to the lounge. Lounging on the couch, book in hand, a cup of tea getting cold on the coffee table and the TV watching me, as it makes background noise.

MAIN MALE CHARACTER OR FEMALE MAIN CHARACTER?
Male main character. A man of action, few words, but witty, like Bruce Willis meets Batman meets the guy from The Transporter movies and the new James Bond. No drama. Books with main female characters tend to get a little chick flicky but there are always exceptions; who kick down doors and take names and throw witty retorts while they at it… Jack Daniels from J. A. Konrath novels.

SWEET SNACKS OR SALTY SNACKS?
Salty snacks. Salty snacks with cheese. Spicy salty snacks with cheese. Snacks one can have with a chilled intoxicating beverage.

TRILOGIES OR QUARTETS?
Hmmm one of my all-time favourite books is Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. A trilogy in four parts. Riddle me that. 3 seems like a nice solid number of books to have but 3 or 4 small difference if the story is good enough to carry through why not? I am currently hooked to a series with ten parts and I am half-way through book 8, started Book 1 a year ago….

READING AT NIGHT OR IN THE MORNING?
I read when I can. At night there are less disturbances the “normal” people are sleeping, and in the morning when I wake up, I can continue from where I left off first thing before the world intrudes and demands I get out of bed.

FIRST PERSON POINT OF VIEW OR THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW?
I love first person point of view, makes you feel like these thoughts are your thoughts that you are part of the story. But some stories call for a more dissociative observation from the reader, you are just a passenger in the story watching where it leads.

LIBRARIES OR BOOKSTORES?
What are bookstores? Are those shops that sell books? Bookshops? Well, where I am from Bookshops are more of glorified Stationery shops and most books they stock are educational text books, and a few novels that are recommended for literature students. Why one would want to spend time in there beats me besides there is nowhere to sit too. If looking for novels you have better luck checking out roadside vendors, one can find surprisingly good gems, even bestsellers.
That leaves a library. But the libraries  we got left are more for educational needs than just reading for pleasure so it’s no fun reading in there unless you have a due assignment or exam. I would rather take my book and sit on a park bench.

BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU CRY OR LAUGH?
Why read a book that makes you cry, that’s just torture, I read to escape I read for fun, I read to laugh.
So I would not willing pick up and read a book that plays with my feels and gives me chest pains, I am all for comedy.
Even the stories I write always have a spark or a blazing conflagration of humour because why cry when you can laugh.

  1. Awesome answers, B!
“Male main character. A man of action, few words, but witty, like Bruce Willis meets Batman meets the guy from The Transporter movies and the new James Bond.” ~> So what you’re saying is, I should expect a novel from you in the future with the male main character above? 😉

Also, I absolutely agree with you about reading to laugh. I do tend to drift towards comedy, or at least a main character with a really sarcastic sense of humor (ex: The Martian. Very serious tone, very serious plot, but the main character is hilarious.) However, I think having the ability to move a reader to tears of sadness is so hard. Sometimes, I purposely choose heartbreaking books. The best way to learn how to hone that skill is to experience it, right? 🙂

    1. Hahahaha One such main character being drafted, a progress in work lol☻☻
I totally get what you mean by that its hard to write truly emotive stuff that drives the reader to tears…. unless you been through stuff or watched some one experience tear jerking moments…..
Still I dont like messing with my feels, I am all sunshine and laughter (mostly) sometimes the rain does come but we dance in the puddles.

  2. 73 questions by Vogue

Laughing, you have no shame. The answer should have been… Yes. Shaking my head!

    “Straight A student”.

Thinking, wait… Actually, Is it something to be proud of? How well one could explain concepts and use formulas of deadmen? How well one absorbed the dead language (Latin) in b and language of the fallen (Greek) in science. I guess you were just staring a fact (oh Latin), I mean truth (thanks wikipedia for correcting me).

Yo!! I felt that. “Apart from standing there and looking like art, what else do you do?”

Laughing, I will say that in my next life. “Something is wrong with my phone could you take a look at it….. it doesn’t have your number in it”

    1. shame? I really do have some, somewhere….

I was just stating a truth, in hindsight the pressure of being a straight A student, kept me from doing things I actually loved, there’s flaws in the education system, ended up cramming without learning, regurgitating without digesting and years after I am out of school I mostly use my punctuation skills to make smiley faces on the internet ^_^ and even then with the emoji keyboard on my phone, not even that…

Next Life pro-tip… conversely tell them something is wrong with their phone dial your number and say fixed it … it has my number now “Call Me” and walk away don’t even look back ♥

      1. Jeez, that’s even better. “Call me.” But unfortunately I am the domineering type so waiting to be called is not something I can survive. I’d rather call and let him decide whether he likes my stalkerish behaviour as I am like that in a relationship, or anything I do: intense. If I call I am saying, this is me, ‘this is what I want from you’…Take it or leave it. If he calls then I’m like, “what is he hoping for” a stressful situation for me.

Intense: that’s why I posted in a different blog post to reduce your discomfort of knowing I always have something to say :). I imagine it might be eyebrow raising to your other readers so I’m giving their eyes a break.

Actually, my problem as an adult about being a top student is… I can see from reading historical biographies how education was designed to create labourers. Whereas Homeschooling (what your family does for a living and the intergenerational knowledge as well as what your parents deemed important enough to pay tutorship for) which was done for aristocrats children, was done with a purpose of stimulating the child to be intelligent rather than what you call ‘regurgitation without digestion’. The result is, some of the content of our education was generated by young minds who had time to concentrate on their *topic (not ‘subject’ as defined today) of their interest while the labourers continued to keep young minds alive by farming their meals and emptying their chamber metal pots. It intrigues me how much intelligence is measured by how much one has absorbed the output of these young minds.

For Example, a well known icon, not that I know anything about science as I didn’t study it in school, Einstein is a pioneer in physics, mathematics (stochastic models) and philosophy. His contribution started around 23. Imagine being able to focus entirely on your mlilo interest and being seen as a pioneer in cultural fiction a few years later?! Imagine that future generations quote your tweets as innovative overlooking the absence of punctuation!

I forgot what I was trying to say, what was my point again. Oh yes. Being a top student in the school curriculum, what a laughable achievement. Unless you are elon musk.

      2. hahahaha some like to be chased some are stalkers

I was wondering on the posting on a different post and actually got to reread my post from two or three years ago like wow I am quite consistent about some things (even when I half forget about them)arent I hahahaha

I totally agree the current education curriculum has a way of mass-producing workers than free thinkers
        ~B
I studied all manner of science and Einstein’s theories are now crucial standard “lore” in defining the basics of some scientific theories but back before that his school master wrote in his report that “he would never amount to anything” and dropping out of high school at 15 didnt help matters but of course he already had a plan worked out to school himself

      3. Laughing. True. And not ashamed. “hahahaha some like to be chased some are stalkers”.

Yea you are. Consistent. I suspect it is because you have defined yourself. Maybe that’s why it comes naturally.

I didn’t choose this post, WP recommended it below your vogue post so I checked it out. And then I exploited it.

“He had a plan to school himself” I guess you have much in common.
