Of From Season 4

From Season 4 Review

FROM is a sci-fi supernatural horror television series created by John Griffin for MGM+.  Season 4 of From premiered on the 19th of April with the 10th episode and season finale showing on Sunday the 28th of June.

The series follows the unwilling residents of an unnamed town where nightmarish creatures come out at night, in their quest to survive the challenges the town throws at them and hopefully find a way to go home. Season 4 continues the story from where the previous ended with Fatima giving birth to the Smiley monster and a new threat shakes up things…

The Good

Compared to previous ones, Season 4 of From attempts to give some answers, albeit grudgingly… For a change, the characters are more open, helping to get a clearer picture of exactly what is going on and thus work toward a solution.

But getting answers has a price as is chillingly warned “Knowledge comes at a cost.

Knowledge comes at cost FROM SEASON 4

Harold Perrineau as Boyd Stevens is still the man holding everything together, just barely, his exhaustion and desperation is almost palpable as he wills himself to keep it together just long enough for everyone to go home…

Julia Doyle as Sophia delivers a dual-role performance that’s equal parts unsettling and riveting, fusing innocence with menace as she embodies both a frightened teenager and something sinister and manipulative.

Its been confirmed that the show will end at the fifth season which will give a clear endgame with closure.  Its said that the show’s most critical clues have been hidden in plain sight since the beginning with many of the “inevitabilities” of the final season set in motion during the very first season.

The Bad

The answers do come at a cost, for every answer you get… new questions arise and some previously important seeming information is just casually ignored, that you have to ask why episodes spent a lot of time following a particular subplot, only to just abandon it… like what was that???

I wont point any fingers but there are some characters that do some consistently dumb things, that they are the weapons formed against themselves and you want to shake some sense into them like why would you do that….

Sophia’s character gets away with way too much, its unbelievable, its like the whole town has a blind spot when it comes to her.

Effectively, Season 4 is mostly setting up for the final season and has a lot of filler content which does nothing to plot except slow it down.

The Ugly

The show is seeming more and more like Lost, not only in its mystery box nature but the plot seems to be building up to a showdown between good and evil similar to Jacob versus the Black Smoke and all the characters simply pawns caught in the middle.

Final Thoughts

From Season 3 sets the stage for the conclusion of the series, moves closer to answers without fully surrendering its mystery. The question that remains is will the series prove that all this mystery has been worth it?

Are you watching this series?

What’s annoying me most is how no-one, not a single person suspects Sophia – didn’t even do the checks they normally do… She moves so suspiciously, constantly where she has no business being 🤦🏽‍♂️
