High Potential Season 2
High Potential is an American Crime Drama series created for ABC. It is based on the 2021 French television series HPI. The show debuted on the 17th of September 2024 and was renewed for a follow-up 18-episode second season, which premiered on 16 September 2025.
Morgan Gillory is a High Potential Intellectual, which means she has an extremely high IQ and works as a consultant for LAPD’s Major Crimes division, where she uses her skills to help solve crime.
The Good
The second season of High Potential continues the story from the cliff-hanger case in Season 1 involving a killer known as The Game Maker, after its resolution, the series follows its episodic crime-of-the-week procedural investigation formula, with a different case every week.. except for the mid-season break, which features an intriguing two-part series.
Meanwhile, the running sub-plot on what happened to Roman Sinquerra, Morgan’s husband, who disappeared 16 years back continues and is developing into a grand conspiracy with far-reaching consequences.
Kaitlin Olson continues to thrill as Morgan, and has great chemistry with the supporting cast, especially Karadec, with whom she has a will-they, wont-they dynamic and their new enigmatic captain, Wagner, who can’t seem to decide if he is being swept into Morgan’s orbit or restore sanity in the department.
The Bad
It tries to be like a cross between Psyche, The Mentalist and Monk, solving cases except the question on what happened to Roman, which gets convoluted with each reveal that I wont be surprised if he was abducted by aliens and everything else is cover-up to hide that an alien invasion is imminent…
The will-they, wont-they unspoken storyline between Morgan and Keredac, is an elephant in the room, which everyone who watches the show can almost predict will happen, but in the meantime its an awkward presence in the relationships either Morgan or Keredac try to have…
The writers need to make up their minds instead of creating characters we are going to have to hate for being in the way of a Morgadec ship.
We get that Morgan is their golden goose, but if other characters could get a bit more agency, instead of this where it appears nothing would get solved if Morgan doesn’t brainstorm the way forward.
The Ugly
The season finale ends on one of those conclusions where the plot can go in several different ways and you find yourself checking when the next season comes out. It’s been renewed for a third season, which, if the previous schedule is anything to go by, would come out September 2026…
Final Thoughts
High Potential is easy tv with fast-paced cases and a light tone, serving as a palette-cleansing crowd pleaser with its twisty who-did-the-crime episodes.
