Coffee With Magunanzi

If you were having coffee with me, I would invite you to feel at home, welcome to my tangle of words…have some magunanzi..

Whats that you say?

Magunanzi is slang used to refer to something good, usually good food but can also mean anything good, the good ones. Sapatina could also be magunanzi… Is it just me or are new words coming faster than can keep track, used like a viral meme today and discarded for a more fun and hippy word tomorrow.

If you were having coffee with me, I would confess that I cant keep up with the slang terms, maybe cause the age is starting to show… the Gen Z, also known as ama2K have started calling people born before the year 2000 ma1k, and I have never felt so old than when I was compared to Ghandi and Mugabe, when I asked what ma1k were

everyone born in a year that starts with 1 is ma 1k

Moving on swiftly, magunanzi is good food, and if you want a guaranteed cheat code for cooking savoury magunanzi, be friends with this mixed seasoning called Sixgun Grill Seasoning… I have no idea what’s in it, probably some secret recipe including MSG, magic and a dash of chaos, but whoever came up with it deserves sapatina food for the angels.

Sixgun Grill seasoning
Every meal’s best friend

However, self-acclaimed culinary purists frown upon using Six Gun, saying that no real chef uses it, because its basically cheating… well, this isn’t a cooking show and there are no brownie points for adding flavour to your meal the hard way.

If you were having coffee with me, I would tell you that ever since I introduced my mum to the marvels of Six Gun, she’s been using it as an accessory to every meal, and has been curious if it can be added to the breakfast cereal…. The jury is still out…

Cant believe that at my young age, I feel so old and yet our leaders seem to be in competition for the Guinness Book record of Oldest and Longest Serving statesmen, despite being on a continent with not only the youngest population but the shortest life expectancy, having 24 of the 25 countries with the lowest life expectancy found here in Africa… If we excel at anything it gotta be the irony.

Africa has world's youngest population and some of its oldest leaders

What if our leaders are vampires draining our life force, becoming the oldest while every else withers away? A late statesman once remarked that “…the country will not die, the youth will save it” but the reality is that the youth seem too busy chasing likes, influencer fame and free handouts, to save anything beyond their phone batteries.

The country will never die young people will save it Joshua Nkomo

A comedian was gifted a car and money and there’s mixed views, some applauding the recognition and others accused of spreading haterade… Regardless of one’s opinion on the matter, such actions reinforces certain behaviours in the youth and soon there will be a rise in influencers and content creators looking to get noticed by political sugardadies and rewarded, than being genuinely creative.

If you are having coffee with me, I would tell you how on the 25th of October, Zimbabwe commemorated anti-sanctions day, first established in 2019, as a regional initiative to call for the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western nations. It is noble regional call to remove sanctions which are blamed for… well… everything. Electricity blackouts? Sanctions. Low investment? Sanctions. National sports teams playing like headless chickens? Big sanctions energy.

Ambulance shortages, while luxury car donations happen every other week? Sanctions. A Presidential Goat Scheme worth the same as a multimillion-dollar Trabablas interchange mysteriously gets defrauded. Sanctions!

Maybe the country is just one giant gunanzi and everyone wants a piece of it…. Kudya nyika rutivi…

There was a powercut during the president’s State Of The Nation Address which could either be sanctions or an ironical representation of the state of the nation, plunged in darkness…

Whats been going in your neck of the woods.

That six gun grill seasoning looks intriguing. I just looked and some sort of variety of it is on Amazon.com It is a bbq rub though and I’m not sure I’d want to buy 1kg of that to experiment with.
Especially with cereal. Imagine putting that on your cornflakes, hahahahaha 😀

Um but what does the MA or AMA stand for ? Also seasoned porridge eh…that looks like a bowl of gravy. I’ve eaten leftovers for breakfast so, works for me 😁

Ma- and Ama- are a collective prefix marker, basically turns a singular into a group of things that share a characteristic…
Its kinda like adding an “S” to the end of a word for the plural…
In this case the alternative equivalent of calling Gen Z the ama2k generation would be saying “the 2000s…” or The 1000s for ma1k…

The bowl of gravy looking stuff is a soft porridge made from maize flour, and by itself tastes rather bland as you can imagine, so its not uncommon to add sugar, milk, peanut butter and or butter to give it some flavour… but people rarely add something savoury…

I actually prefer having leftovers for breakfast or rather brunch 😂 😂

If you were having coffee with me, I’d make you feel young because I’d probably use some really old slang while I reveal that I could use some Six Gun Grill Seasoning since I’m a very “blue collar” cook. As a single guy in my 50’s, I cook because no one is going to do it for me and I don’t want to eat ALL processed instant food. Also, I’d actually use it on the grill. Somehow grilling seems less like drudgery than inside cooking.

Grilling does put some fun back in the cooking… and the Six Gun is best for a barbecue something in it really blends well with the smoky flavour of a flame grilled steak… can even mix it into whatever marinade of choice as well and then use the leftover sauce in gravy 😂 I have done this but some people seem to find it weird.. but I find it weird to simply throw away a perfectly good marinade simply cause the meat’s done😂
