Of Paul’s Letter To Zimbabwe

Paul’s letter To Zimbabwe

In the biblical times the apostle Paul wrote letters to the Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, Thessalonians and Philemon. Paulโ€™s Epistles were meant to establish his authority as an apostle, so as to provide instruction and guidance on Christian living, to address specific issues or problems within the churches, and to maintain communication and relationships with distant congregations.

What kind of letter would he write to the people of Zimbabwe in todayโ€™s age?

Paulโ€™s Letter To Zimbabwe

To the people of Zimbabwe, dwelling between the Zambezi and the Limpopo, Grace be unto you. As I reflect on your resilience, my spirit is lifted by the testimony of your unwavering commitment to righteousness and justice. I commend you for standing firm in your beliefs during challenging times.

Your faith shines as a beacon, even in the shadow of suffering. Yet, beloved, I write to you with a heavy heart, for reports have reached me of the unrighteousness that festers in your land. I must speak plainly to you, that you may turn from darkness and walk in the light.

I donโ€™t know where to start.

Firstly, I hear of corruption amongst you, brothers and sisters. Is it not written, “The love of money is the root of all evil”. Yet, you have allowed this love to take root, leading to bribery, embezzlement, and the theft of what belongs to all. You have been given a land rich in resources, yet you squander it through greed.

Be wary of those who hoard wealth at your expense, do not place them on pedestals and worship them as if they were idols. That path only leads to ruin, turning your country into a den of thieves, where you only look out for yourself and coin your only sovereign. Beware the gold that glitters in darkness, stains the hands and the heart.

The church which should be your guiding authority, has also fallen prey to pursuing materialistic gains. Deliverance is sold as a commodity from the pulpit by prophets prophesying about profit and prosperity, that only comes to those who seed and tithe. Do not be deceived by false teachers who come to you as angels of light, yet they are ravenous wolves, offering wealth without work and health without cure. They profit from your desperation.

Let none among you boast of wealth acquired without toil, nor parade their prosperity as a sign of divine favour. Faith is not measured by the size of oneโ€™s offering or by a grand spectacle of miracles and anointed goods sold to the highest bidder. Do not be led astray by performances that enrich only the performer.

Put not your trust in mortal men who cannot serve, neither your prophets who only see you as dollar signs nor your leaders who only care to line their pockets proclaiming that as almighty and the peopleโ€™s will. Let transparency prevail in your elective selection of leaders so they do not rise to power through dishonest means, and may they always remember that leadership is a call to service not privilege.

No state exists in a silo, and as you form alliances with the global village, know this beloved, that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Let your dealings with citizens of the world be marked by integrity, justice, and the pursuit of peace for all.

As we journey together towards righteousness may forgiveness reign where grievances linger; may reconciliation heal, wounds inflicted upon hearts divided by strife; may dialogue replace discord so that true progress flourishes.

May peace and grace find you beloved

Amen

Reads like I could write the same satirical letter and substitute the U.S. for Zimbabwe.
