Becoming The Muse

Aiva madziva ava mazambuko a Shona proverb that can be translated to mean what was once a grand river is now a crossing place or ford… Its a proverb about change when what used to be hard becomes simple or the change in circumstances from being of great standing to less.

Once a raging force of nature,
A roaring and rushing stream,
carving its way through the land
Like a mighty and majestic dream.
Carrying dreams and stories in its wake.
Dreams of hope and stories of dreams.
And now a forgotten trickle
marked by a once remarkable relic,
a steel skeleton towering over
the graveyard of a silted river.
