Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 – Becoming The Muse
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a 2023 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, produced by Marvel Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It was written and directed by James Gunn.

The movie is a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) and is the 3rd and final volume of the current iteration of Guardians of the Galaxy franchise by James Gunn.
The story follows the ragtag team of cosmic misfits as they embark on a high stakes quest to save one of their own from a ruthless villain.
The Good
In Marvel style, it is a mostly bright riotous swirling of colour and action, giving a final send off to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy series…..

While the plot is centred around Rocket, no key character gets left behind in this feature that wraps up the story arcs of our favourite band of misfits. We get to learn what makes Rocket tick and spoiler alert, beneath all that, he really is a racoon.

Drax The Destroyer is his usual charming, hilarious and headstrong, brute of a character alongside the ever empathic Mantis, who is more perspective than she lets on and still drops hilarious gems.

The Soundtrack!!! Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is packed with a nostalgic playlist on Peter Quill’s Zune…. featuring music from the Beastie Boys, Radiohead, Alice Cooper and others

The Bad
The movie has a lot going on, there’s too many characters and subplots all vying for our attention and stretching the plot much too thinly and then tries to emotionally blackmails us into empathising with a heartbroken Quill, a broken Rocket with an even more broken past, the animal cruelty and the Guardians wearing their hearts on their sleeves, risking everything to save one of theirs….

And through that you have Quill trying to rekindle things with Gamora…. (Didn’t she die in that other movie? Yeah, she did but she back now or rather an alternate past version of her that never met Quill or The Guardians and that’s about all the explanation you get about that)
Mantis’ character has grown from when she was first introduced to the franchise, but her role is mostly relegated to comic relief alongside Drax… I feel she is the heart of the guardians and should have had space to be her own self but they made it to be just vibes.

And then there’s Adam Warlock, whose sparkly gold character feels like was an after thought addition to the movie and oh there’s a talking dog with the power of telekinesis….
The Ugly
The villain is a vainglorious evil scientist trying to create the perfect species through cringefest Dr Frankestein type creations which would have had the S.P.C.A. shutting down the movie for cruelty to animals had they not been CGI…
He is a villain doing horrendous things, now can we get more on him besides that? After MCU gave us a villain like Thanos we have come to expect a better understanding of a villain’s motivations than simply having a God Complex.

Final Thoughts
As the final volume in The Guardians Of The Galaxy movies, it has a certain sadness and finality to it, this might be the last time you will be seeing this band of unlikely heroes… watching it gives a certain dread over which character makes it to the end of the movie… You know how movies like to kill off major characters to end a franchise.
It doesn’t have a conventionally happy ending…. But it does leave a room for a return of some of the characters in future productions.
Are you fan of the Guardians Of The Galaxy and why is Drax the funniest 😂
