Martin’s A song of fire and ice, Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicles, Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive, Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera, Sabaa Tahir’s Embers Series to name drop a few and of course J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter 

GOOD READS

Early this year I discovered authors who write fantasy steeped in their African lore, myths, traditions and I fell in love with the magic in our ancestry all over again.

And I think I binge read all the books by The Iroko Tree Witch: Nnedi Okorafor 

Reading these authors has helped me to connect, embrace and be proud of my heritage and now when you ask me what I write I will tell you that, I cant do magic so I write:

“I write fantasy, fantasy steeped in African mythology, legends of old married to the science of today, spawning narratives that celebrate the magic in my ancestry and the myths behind the truth of my heritage……….”

    I have FOMO now, it seems I’m the only one that hasn’t read Children of Blood and Bone. I feel empty 😔

    The difference between me and you is I love to WATCH not read fantasy. This entire post just made me realise why you get so much blogging work done, readers truly are writers!

      watching fantasy kinda robs us of the imagination to build our own worlds in our heads hahaha I guess which is why you will find people saying the book was better when a film/series is adapted from a book

    Your reading list is top notch, i think i should add Beasts Made Of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi for my fiction reading list for 2019 i believe its a good read.

      I was playin serious catch up on my African Lit and it all started when someone read a story from my blog and commented that what I wrote reminded them of an author whom at the time I hadnt read or known so I looked them up and down the African fantasy rabbit hole…..

    And here I was just thinking about how it’s been a long time since I’ve read anything for fun, and how I’d like to branch out a little bit in my reading (in other words, going beyond nonfiction books). I looked up your review of Children of Blood and Bone, and it sounds super enlightening; I don’t know anything at all about African lore, so that could be the sort of book that broadens my thought horizons.

      I am not particularly keen on non-fiction books though hahahaha

    I love this!😆 I’ve read The Name of the Wind and it was the most amazing fantasy book I’ve read so far. I was actually looking for African fantasy books & I’ll definitely be looking these up.
