Mobland
Mobland is a 2025 British crime drama television series created by Ronan Bennett (who also created The Day Of The Jackal series) and directed and executive produced by Guy Ritchie for Paramount+. The series premiered on 30 March 2025 dropping weekly episodes till the finale on 1 June 2025.

The series stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for a crime family as it gets caught up in a power grab where loyalty is tested and empires are toppled. Kinda sounds like I could be describing Havoc.
The Good
It’s a Guy Ritchie production which will remind you of Ray Donovan meets The Gentlemen and Gangs Of London. Guy Ritchie knows how to make the best use of Tom Hardy who carries this show and the Harrigan family on his back.
Obviously, hats off to Tom Hardy’s portray of Harry de Souza a magnetically charismatic character of few words and persuasive charm who is always several moves ahead of everyone else, expect its seems when it comes to his own family, which never quite gets his attention.

Mobland has a strong cast which includes Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as the Harrigan family, whom you can tell, were having the time of their lives in their roles as Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, who are absolutely crazy and totally made for each other, with no further comment 😂

Special mention goes to Anson Boon as Eddie Harrigan who managed to take the cup as one of the most hated teen characters since Joffrey Baratheon from Game Of Thrones.
The series has an interesting soundtrack and a banger of an opening theme song from Irish Irish rock band Fontaines DC.. I also made a playlist of songs from Mobland which you checkout below
The Bad
The show takes a while to build its momentum and even then pacing of episodes is very erratic, with the first third of an episode usually a recap of events that should have been covered in the previous episode and then ending just when things are getting interesting.

Like any show following crime families with “a fixer”, some things feel predictable let alone Tom Hardy who seems to have consolidated every role he has ever done into Harry De Souza, he doesn’t talk much and might need you to suspend your disbelief as he handles and fixes problems with a minimal amount of words.
Besides Harry, the rest of the characters are rather under-developed and driven by whimsical and ill-thought motivations that can have you shaking your head at the absurdity…
While it sets up some interesting twists, the plot has subplots which didn’t offer any significant payload to the overall series and results in a season finale which feels a little underwhelming compared to the build-up.
The Ugly
It’s a Guy Ritchie production… you know there will be gratuitous violence and glorification of the gang culture, where crime pays and the law is compromised.

Mobland has undertones on themes of abuse and generally eeky behaviours which never get addressed even when they are central to the plot making it seem like they simply used as shock factor than incorporated into the plot.
Final Thoughts
Mobland is a fun watch for crime drama series enthusiasts and of course Tom Hardy fans, while it does not reinvent the genre it provides solid entertainment.
Fun Fact: it was initially announced as The Donovans, a loosely-based spin-off to the series Ray Donovan and later reworked into the standalone series we now know as Mobland.
Have you watched this show yet? Does it sound like something you would watch?

Your thoughts.. if you will?
