The Last Of Us Season 2
The Last Of Us is a zombie apocalypse drama series created for HBO and adapted from a video game of the same name. Season 2 of The Last Us based the second installment of the game The Last Of Us Part II, premiered on HBO on 13 April 2025.

Season 2 continues the story from where Season 1 ended with Joel and Ellie now living with a community of survivors constantly at the ready for a zombie attack as new threats evolve.
The Good
Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel continue to deliver emotionally nuanced performances, in their pseudo-father-daughter relationship as Ellie undergoes teen angst and Joel struggles to keep up like any parent.

While the show takes a slightly different direction from the video game, some major scenes are adapted as is from the game allowing gamers to find something to connect with.

The cinematography is once again outstanding. The post-apocalyptic world comes as a lush, dangerous, and haunting backdrop.

The Bad
The adaptation of The Last of Us Part II has been controversial, and has pursued direction which has proven divisive to fans… If you did not care for The Last Of Us Part II game, you wont like Season 2 of The Last Of Us.

I expected a Zombie series but instead The Last Of Us Season 2 comes across as a coming of age drama, on parenting, growing pains, community, consequences and revenge, served with moral ambiguity and emotional blackmail.
The pacing of the episodes as it expands its world-building and introduces new characters and communities, is all over the place and jarring, that sometimes you find yourself double-checking if you are still watching the correct episode.
What in the ending was that finale… I expected… more.
The Ugly
Its still a zombie series and has some graphic and disturbing visuals although not gratuitous it makes you stew in the discomfort than offer tidy resolutions.

The series manipulates us into being supportive of some questionable choices, challenging one’s allegiance but without offering enough cushioning which leaves the characters tonally flat.
Final Thoughts
The Last Of Us Season 2 is an ambitious follow up to the series, alternating between sparks of brilliance and questionable scripting, that has seen the show drop in viewership.
Fun Fact: If you Google The Last Of Us a mushroom appears at the bottom of the screen and if you click it, you see the cordyceps multiplying.
Have you watched The Last Of Us or played the games?

Your thoughts.. if you will?
