The Bondsman
The Bondsman is an American action horror television series created by Grainger David for Amazon Prime Video. The 8-episode series premiered on the 3rd of April 2025.

The story is centred around a bounty hunter who gets a second chance at life with a job description that has a twist…
The Good
The thirty-minute episodes give it a fast-paced feel and by the time you finish the episode you are ready to click next. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and ends just as you are thinking they should do more, giving it high chances of a second season.
Kevin Bacon as Hub Halloran delivers a compelling performance balancing the character’s rugged demeanour with moments of introspection and dark humour. Kevin’s charisma oozes out easily without trying as he gives the show its heart and soul.

The Bondsman has a colourful cast, there’s Kitty, Hub’s devout yet surprisingly adaptable mother and then there is Midge, Hub’s new boss and corporate liason bringing a quirky and humorous touch to the series.

The Bad
While the show tries to conjure up a unique premise, its not all that groundbreaking coming across as a fusion of Ghostrider and Supernatural that half expect to run into Sam and Dean Winchester.
The first episode is intriguing but the subsequent ones become rather formulaic following a monster of the week format with each episode featuring a new terror.

A downside of short episodes is that the plot rushes past, leaving thinly developed characters in a fast-paced setting with erratic tonal shifts between humour, horror and drama.
The Ugly
The Bondsman is a horror supernatural series, in case you missed the memo, it does not shy away from graphic blood and gore, delivering it by the bucketful, fans of the horror genre will find it visually striking while a more squeamish audience might struggle during some scenes.

I feel the show missed an opportunity to have a distinct redemption arc given that at its core it’s a morality battle between good and evil and the choices that take us off the path, but that aspect of the plot takes a backseat to the gory theatrics.
Final Thoughts
The Bondsman is worth watching for its intriguing premise and Kevin Bacon‘s performance especially if you are a fan of his work and lovers of the horror genre. Quite easy to watch in a single sitting for the serial series watchers.
