From Season 3 review

FROM is a sci-fi supernatural horror television series created by John Griffin for MGM+. Season 3 of From premiered on the 22nd of September with the 10th episode and season finale showing on Sunday the 24th of November.

From Season 3

The series follows the unwilling residents of an unnamed town in the United States where nightmarish creatures come out at night in their quest to survive the challenges the town throws at them and hopefully find a way to go home. Season 3 continues the story from where Season 2 ended with Tabitha seemingly to make it out of the town and into the real world….

The show continues its mystery box puzzle theme, where no one knows what exactly is going on and half the fun is in figuring out in real-time, along with the characters what could be possibly happening to them and why. This gives it a gripping atmosphere where anything can happen as characters stumble into plot twists you did not see coming.

Once again, Harold Perrineau as Boyd Stevens is the glue that holds the show and the people together, delivering an award winning performance of a man who has to bear the burden of making the difficult decisions for the greater good… and the cracks are starting to show… season 3 might as well as be themed Breaking Boyd.

Several key characters get fleshed out giving more insights into the town. Jade who was obnoxiously arrogant became charming in his mad genius way, as he tries to crack the puzzle, Donna shows a vulnerable side to her iron lady persona. Victor’s man-child character also undergoes tremendous growth with his scenes being some of the most touching.

The show gives its answers begrudgingly and for every answer you get, more questions come up…

Out of the 10 episodes of season 3, only a handful actually advance the main plot meaningfully, with most of them serving to provide filler drama while waiting for the next clue to drop. Again, the characters are pre-occupied in their subplot stories instead of having a collective exposition, which would have helped solve the mystery faster…

The one time they call for a town meeting, instead of getting some progress it degenerates into a blame game, and in the words of Jade:

“Any meeting with more than three people is basically pointless

The show does not shy away from graphic violence, and the monsters have a rather sadistic streak this season, in the way favourite characters are toyed with.

Because the show does not reveal a lot, it leaves room for fans to come up with wild theories on whats going on in From, some of the fan theories are quite intricate and sometimes more interesting than what is actually happening and makes it feel like the show is dropping the bar. Considering that From is from the producers of Lost, there’s the sentiment that the show is going to get lost in its mystery just like Lost, if you still remember it.

FROM Season 3 continues to deliver on its eerie, mind-bending premise, building on its strength, introducing new character dynamics and mysteries that will have you waiting for the next season.

From was renewed for Season 4 and might possibly return to our screens in 2026.

Do you like mystery box shows like Lost and From? If you have watched or are watching From what are your thoughts about it?

After finishing season 3 looks like I still have to do a rewatch because looks like there’s a lot of Easter Eggs and clues embbeded into past episodes….

I was a big fan of LOST back in the day. But they completely lost me, ha! as a fan when they went with the whole “Everyone is dead” kind of thing.
Hoping they don’t do that for From for all the fans’ sake.

I have a crazy theory that the idea of “everyone is dead” is something they toying around with, what we best hope for is that they execute it or everyone better😂 If I remember right Lost got affected by some guild strike which is why and how it got botched in its delivery….

Season 2 happened in the middle of a strike, so it was an abbreviated season and everyone blames that for the storyline going wonky. I’m not so convinced, because the producers still had to make the final decision about where the story was going. And they went “there” :-/

I’m loving From. The short seasons are an opportunity to practice patience, I suppose. I guessed sort of right with some of this season’s mysteries. But, like you, I worry they’ll fall off the rails.

Ran into a hilarious and outlandish theory that when they hinted that the answers are at the beginning they meant literally the beginning of the episode… The Opening Song spells it all out that Boyd must kill Sarah and they all go home, simple 😂 😂 😂

Too funny – I often skip the song – maybe that’s why I missed that lol 😉
