Of Making Money From Your Blog

How to make money from blogging

So you want to make money from blogging? Its a scam.

Making money from blogging

The number one most asked question by bloggers is how to make money from blogging and the bloggers who make money from blogging usually blog about how to make money from blogging… It’s a bit like a motivational author who makes a fortune from selling self-help books on success or a forex trader who teaches online classes on how to make money from forex…

Pay attention at how the people I have cited above don’t make their money from actually doing what they teach you to do but from teaching you to do it… a subtle technicality. Not saying what they are teaching is not invaluable but be careful not to be sold grand dreams that you think taking a simple masterclass at a 90% two for one discount special will give you 4 figure paychecks from home, overnight.

Essentially what you need, to earn from your blog, is to have a good site with good content which means having a lot of traffic… What you never read about, is how much traffic you actually need for it, for this to make sense, it’s a lot lot.

How To Make Money Blogging

Making money from Ads

I subscribed to WordAds (A WordPress Ad service similar to GoogleAds) because the notification kept popping up in my dashboard and I figured hey might as well earn a few cents from those adverts right… well, not quite, from the looks of it, it will take a long time before the money is anywhere near enough to even pay for WordPress plan.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the process by which an affiliate earns a commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products. One finds a product or service to promote and earns a bit of profit from the sale…

Sounds easy right but no, some affiliate programs come with Terms and Conditions that aren’t tailored to let you prosper….

Its also good practice to declare affiliate links or state that using a product you recommend will result in you receiving a reward, this transparency helps your audience see you have a vested interest and not simply trying to influence your readers into making a purchase of something which you may not even use or need…

For example, if you are considering paying for a WordPress.com plan, and I refer you to use my link, you will get a discount and I, in turn, will get a credits for when I pay for my plan… Click here to get referral WordPress.com credits

Marketing and promoting yourself

The things I mentioned above involve you promoting another’s already existing business and services, you could use your website to market your skills or sell your own products; it could be a book you have written, classes on a particular skillset or as an online catalogue showcasing what you have worked on and what you can do. Check out my previous post on being paid with exposure to see how I was head-hunted for a project and my blog was the portfolio that sealed the deal….

You could send out subscription based newsletters or even strike a deal with service providers to sponsor your blog content, the possibilities are endless

WordPress.com now allows you to add a premium payment blocks only available to paying audience, for example, I could decide that to access more in-depth content on how to make money from blogging you would have to pay…

monetising your blog

Donations

You can ask people nicely to support your site, as a token of appreciation. I have had people I have never met in person come through for me in unexpected ways…

You could buy me a coffee in solidarity if the spirit moves you.

I kinda figured the bloggers wanting to teach you how to make money by teaching you how to make money that’s how they are making their money 🤣it’s the same as people trying to teach you how to invest in the stock market, and there is a ton more… I wondered through ads if you really made much money, and am thankful that’s not why I blog! Lol 😄 haha, don’t know if what I just wrote even makes sense. 🙃

      You totally make sense…
It’s really a bit of a scam… 😅though I am of half a mind to join this fray, well not teaching people how to make money from blogging but maybe just the how to blog or be a better blogger. I already do this anyway 😁😁
Since I enabled the ads service have earned just under $10 and that’s in about 4 months and when you weigh in that you can only payout once it’s over $100 it means that at present rate that will take… awhile 😁😁
So yep, if one’s primary motivation is to make money… they will be in for a rude awakening
Explains why some start and then just disappear.

The irony… Haha I guess it’s the same people who teach you how to be millionaires … I made money through paid partnership from my first blog and I’d be lying if I wrote about it cos it just happened and it’s not really guaranteed especially if you are simply a writer not a product review kind of writer those ones get coins

I still maintain a somewhat idealistic philosophy that the better you get at something you love to do, the more you increase the chances that someone will pay you for your knowledge, expertise and experience…

Yup. Spot on. I figured that the only way I will make a few cents is if I publish a book and my readers buy it. Otherwise, forget it.

I like your consultant infographic. It made me chuckle.

This is so frank. I’ve had several ‘upcoming’ bloggers ask me whether I make money from blogging and I say a big no. I tell them of the other benefits that come with it but physical cash, they need to look elsewhere. I’d probably keep this link and refer them to it. Thanks for being frank.

Lol… i really don’t blame them though. There are a couple of bloggers in Ghana (mostly entertainment bloggers) who seem to be living the life and earning a lot. They seem to have some magic that I do not know about yet.

interesting .. but then as you seem I was reading an article about how influencers will “book” houses and rooms from the celebs so they can do those photoshoots that seem like they are living the life… a lot in the entertainment industry is make believe like watching a music video and thinking thats how they roll…

I find myself thinking many times as well if what I am buying is going to be good or not.. It makes me question, if this process or method is so good and profitable, why are they selling it to create more competition for themselves? Nice write up!
