How to make money from blogging
So you want to make money from blogging? Its a scam.
The number one most asked question by bloggers is how to make money from blogging and the bloggers who make money from blogging usually blog about how to make money from blogging… It’s a bit like a motivational author who makes a fortune from selling self-help books on success or a forex trader who teaches online classes on how to make money from forex…
Pay attention at how the people I have cited above don’t make their money from actually doing what they teach you to do but from teaching you to do it… a subtle technicality. Not saying what they are teaching is not invaluable but be careful not to be sold grand dreams that you think taking a simple masterclass at a 90% two for one discount special will give you 4 figure paychecks from home, overnight.
Essentially what you need, to earn from your blog, is to have a good site with good content which means having a lot of traffic… What you never read about, is how much traffic you actually need for it, for this to make sense, it’s a lot lot.
Making money from Ads
I subscribed to WordAds (A WordPress Ad service similar to GoogleAds) because the notification kept popping up in my dashboard and I figured hey might as well earn a few cents from those adverts right… well, not quite, from the looks of it, it will take a long time before the money is anywhere near enough to even pay for WordPress plan.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is the process by which an affiliate earns a commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products. One finds a product or service to promote and earns a bit of profit from the sale…
Sounds easy right but no, some affiliate programs come with Terms and Conditions that aren’t tailored to let you prosper….
Its also good practice to declare affiliate links or state that using a product you recommend will result in you receiving a reward, this transparency helps your audience see you have a vested interest and not simply trying to influence your readers into making a purchase of something which you may not even use or need…
For example, if you are considering paying for a WordPress.com plan, and I refer you to use my link, you will get a discount and I, in turn, will get a credits for when I pay for my plan… Click here to get referral WordPress.com credits
Marketing and promoting yourself
The things I mentioned above involve you promoting another’s already existing business and services, you could use your website to market your skills or sell your own products; it could be a book you have written, classes on a particular skillset or as an online catalogue showcasing what you have worked on and what you can do. Check out my previous post on being paid with exposure to see how I was head-hunted for a project and my blog was the portfolio that sealed the deal….
You could send out subscription based newsletters or even strike a deal with service providers to sponsor your blog content, the possibilities are endless
WordPress.com now allows you to add a premium payment blocks only available to paying audience, for example, I could decide that to access more in-depth content on how to make money from blogging you would have to pay…
