Of Consistent Writing

If the first day of the month falls on a Sunday, the thirteenth day will be a Friday….

Friday The 13th

friday the 13th

If you would rather read a somewhat spine chilling story which I wrote once upon a Friday the 13th click the button below:

Today is day 13 of 25 days of blogging challenge themed Best Of The Year and I will be sharing on a couple of lessons this year has taught me….

Life will surprise you

Just when you think you have hit rock bottom, you will find there is a sub-basement below it and yet another level below, in fact the descend may never stop; so don’t wait for rock bottom to start trying to crawl your way up…. And just when you think things are bleak, there is someone else who is looking at you thinking; “Wow you have it made!” and even a little envious of you, because their situation is bleaker than yours, not that it should give you comfort of any kind that you are better off than someone else, there’s others better off than you, never forget what you do have….. write about it

Rejection never gets easier

They tell you practise makes perfect but not when it comes to rejection… Its like for a second you find your silver lining, your light at the end of the tunnel and someone just comes and switches it off; like it’s a stage of load shedding.

This year I made countless submissions and pitches; most of which eventually ended with that:

“we thank you for your interest in wanting to work with us but regret that….
“we received so many remarkable participants it was a tough selection process and we regret…”
“Your
ideas are brilliant but your organisation is way too established to qualify as a start-up……”

So back to the drawing board you go trying to figure out what went wrong how you can fix it… They say rejection gives you character and that things have a way of working out; your turn will come; yeah so I will be over here pretending that I am building my character and 2020 will be my year like I wrote in the beginning of this year and the year before that and the year before that…

I am a fast writer

A fellow blogger friend pointed out that outside of people who wrote because they had to or worked with publications and magazines; my blog was one of the most consistently updated in their circles, which would have been highly flattering if it weren’t that we were discussing typos; which I really cant stand and I have known myself to find a typo in a post six years old and edited it. How come some of my posts have typos in them, was I rushing to finish a post before my laptop ran out of power or before load shedding kicked in; yes possibly but also I just write fast…

When I say I write fast, I don’t mean that I write fast as in many words at a time but that my writing process is more about the writing, I don’t think about it, I just write, I don’t pay too much attention to editing and all that because first, I write then go through it later and yeah some just gets left behind. I write with my heart and edit with my head… after all you cant edit something if haven’t written it yet, right?

After reading this post Don’t hate me Cause I Write Fast  I am now finally able to answer a question on consistency:

Whats My Secret?

Its like the opposite of what you do in quicksand; when you are stuck in quicksand you stand perfectly still and move slowly and deliberately… Yeah, well in writing, if you stop, it gets hard to start again, never, stop, writing. The writer’s block wont catch you if you never stop moving.

Throughout all I have faced I have never stopped writing , even if its just in my notebook when there’s no electricity, or in a draft that will never be published, or a note on my phone that may one day become a short story……

Keep Writing

You can definitely see your enthusiasm within the work you write.
The sector hopes for even more passionate writers like you who aren’t afraid to mention hhow they believe.
    Always follow your heart.

It seems like we’ve had a similar year.
I have always known things can be worse and that others have it worse than me, but sometimes you forget about it. You CHOOSE to push it away.
Rejections. Ahhh… yes, I got a couple of those this year, too. But you know what? At least I tried. At least I know. Even though, when I get the rejections, for a second I wish I had not known.
I get disappointed all the time. Just last night I was reminding myself not to have hopes and dreams.
I wrote a lot this year and I plan on doing the same next year! Cheers!
