Of The Best Non-fiction Book #BOTY2019

I think there’s two types of readers in the world Fiction readers and Non-Fiction readers……

fiction vs non-fiction

Judging from my reading list I am a lover of fiction.

I was scratching my head trying to think of the best non-fiction book I read this year and was stuck because I was failing to come up with a single non-fic book I read…. I was even debating whether the Bible could be classified as fiction or non-fiction…..

There’s only one non-fiction book under my Book Reviews tag Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon and by virtue of it being the only one under that category this year I was considering just dropping a link to my review of the book like this:

Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon

Steal Like an artist

This book is basically a guide on how to steal like an artist, in other words to not just imitate those whom we wish to be like but to learn to see how they see things the way they do….. to read more click on button below:

The only thing that was stopping me from hitting the publish button was that The Mad Blogger, Dante had beat me to my post, imagine;

its not stealing its research

Soon as I set down to find a way to spin this post differently, after having to wait for the electricity to come back at 11pm, a midnight thunderstorm started  and hello darkness, as a power blackout plunged the house into an inky black mess pierced by brief and frequent lightning flashes…..

This was my cue to go back to bed, because the electricity was definitely not coming back anytime soon, instead of tossing and turning trying to summon sleep I opted to do some light reading and scrolled through my ebook library for a read.

The Doubt Factor by Renée Paule

The Doubt Factor is kind of a brief insight into Renée’s philosophical journey through life and the quirky traits of humanity coalesced into a book from “the many notes and other scraps that found space on my desk”

Renée explores and challenges the habits we form, the prejudices we hold and the society whose beliefs we try to conform to, and of course the doubt and ultimately what lies at the end of all life’s journeys, death. ….

“To doubt is to question, and to question is a part of our quest; our quest is to find our truth and through it, to grow.”

Doubt is a powerful and underestimated word whose meaning can safeguard or vanquish.

Doubt has no conclusion and doubt leads to the greatest form of procrastination – being unprepared for ‘what’s next’, if anything at all.

In the world of chaos, sometimes it’s more restful for us to give ‘wonder’ the benefit of the doubt.

In the parting chapter Renée concludes that we ought to Live thoughtfully and do no harm

The society we’re born into is mischievous and inhospitable – it doesn’t have our best interest at heart and as we grow older, we don’t have its best interest at heart either. ~Renée Paule

Ending with a quote from Paul Simon Kathy’s Song
And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true.
I stand alone without beliefs.
The only truth I know is you.

This philosophical read will have you asking yourself; who are you and if the ideas that you have, are really yours, and though you might not be able to change the world, you can change yourself…..
