Of A blogger’s Love Language

Lately I have been seeing lots of references about love languages, which were sparked by Gary Chapman’s book The 5 Love Languages: The secrets to love that lasts

The 5 love languages

Confession I haven’t read this book its somewhere on a list of To Be Read as someone who never reads the instruction of manual of a device until I am trying to figure out why its not working the way it should, I prefer reading fantastical fiction.

According to Chapman there are five love languages:

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Acts of Service
  3. Receiving gifts
  4. Quality time
  5. Physical touch

I have a love affair with words and people who appreciate the tangle of words that I weave, and this is how my love language is expressed

Words of Affirmation

This is when you use your words to give me constructive feedback. They can be simple words, like:

Nice

Great

Good read

I sort of know this already but a little affirmation never hurt and if you want to kick it up a gear, use your words show how much and what exactly you like about what you read

I relate to what you have shared a similar thing happened when….

You are a breath of fresh of air, I particularly laughed when you said…

I love how you express yourself and when you shared about…

You have really nice hair…( ok that one isn’t quite about writing but my hair is a love language we are in a committed relationship I put a ring on it)

Dread wemablogs

I want to say I appreciate constructive criticism but please be gentle the writing ego is somewhat fragile one thoughtless word can wound the soul, you may not have an idea how scary it is to share bits of yourself this is why affirmation is crucial

Acts of service

acts of service

Actions speak louder than words.

Do things. Simple

Click the like button or the share button. Share on your Twitter or Facebook or email or wherever.

Recommend the blog to other people

Add a link to the blog when you mention it.

Print out a favourite blog post or give to someone to read.

Send me prompts or ideas of posts to write about for when inspiration is low

Receiving Gifts

receiving gifts

This is somewhat similar to acts of service but these are more meaningful and thoughtful ways of saying look I was thinking of you.

Send a postcard printed out from your favourite post

A  personalized notepad that matches the blog

Buy me coffee

Here’s a shiny new laptop to write on

A t/shirt that says blogging is my lifestyle

Blogging is my lifestyle

Quality time

Quality time

I want undivided attention. I am not saying read only me, we are capable of loving a vast range of writers and I also want to be read. Catch a break, put your feet up, click something and read.

Physical Touch

Physical touch

Well, this one is a bit difficult because… you are over there and I am… over here. But you can use your imagination…. Wait please don’t hug your laptop and pretend that’s me that’s just weird.

If you ever see me in the real world, don’t just smile and wave, stop me and shake my hand…

🙂 It never crossed my mind to print out a favourite blog post to read.

However, I do recommend URLs for some people to check out (In my part of the world, almost everyone has access to the internet).

Do enjoy the rest of your day!

On a serious note, you should take a test to check which language you predominantly prefer. I don’t believe it but i took it anyway and it couldn’t decide between words and actions for me. I got almost zero for the other languages (gift, time, touch).

The last test I took was to check what my personality type was … apparently I am INFP and from that I can pretty much work out the languages I prefer will just check the test to see if it matches though I dont hold much faith in the likes of these they do offer interesting insights…. kinda like astrology, mentalists and psychiatrists

I find your voice as a writer very gentle and affirming, I guess that is why you are the uncle of bloggers – a gentle and affirming uncle.

Ps: I am also INFP, mediator to be exact (according to https://www.16personalities.com), which one are you?

Hnngggh, I don’t know what to say exactly, I just love this. I have a soft spot for needing affirmations too because I’m a snowflake and yes words can be hurtful sometimes. I love your hair. You deserve all the affirmations you need. All of your readers appreciate you (and sometimes I even think of all the friends you have on twitter and wordpress, you know me and you spend time reading my posts too, and that’s just amazing). You are amazing. I’d buy you coffee if I could. Altho I’m not a creep and hugging my laptop or phone isn’t really my thing so I guess, I’m okay? Haha. You rock my world, B. 💕 I appreciate you.
